I'll call them #1 (on truck) and #2(on trailer). Answered CL ad for #2. Got there and the old guy owner said he bought them from his 'old guy' neighbor a few months before to restore #1. Also said his neighbor bought them in 1982 to restore but they'd sat since then. My old guy bought new tires, pulled the fenders, bed, front clip and hood off #1, then lost steam. He told me "it was a lot more work than I remembered" Anyways, I paid his reasonable price for #2 and got #1 for the same money. He also said "they both ran in 1982" and he'd "already oiled them up and turned 'em over by hand". #1 was repainted in the 1970's. Also had an OHV Ford 6 cylinder (223?) installed. 12 volt conversion and chrome rims but the rest is pretty stock. Factory heater and radio! 3 speed on the column. Windows and doors work perfect. Got the fenders back on and cleaned it up a little. Little Elvis snear to the grill will require some work.
CONGRATULATIONS ! The fenders look pretty decent. GOOD fenders for the 48/50 F-1's are difficult to come by here in the south. Seems like everyone of those trucks were drove down, beat down and and abused until they just would not roll another 10 feet. Then someone drug them thru a forest, hitting every other tree in sight.
#2 is a bit rougher but very complete. Been hit in the grill and pounded out. Few other dents. Original flathead 6 and floor shifter. Original seat but the upholstery is shot. Got some tires mounted up on some 1960's wheels for #2 and threw on some Merc dog dish caps. Gave it a bath too. (gotta keep the neighbors happy)
Actually my neighbors are always interested in what I'm doing and don't mind my cars but I do keep things clean. I'm the 'car guy' so some of them ask for advice, borrow a tool, use a manual, see if I'll look at their dead lawnmower, etc.. I have neighborhood seniority too. Only one guy has lived here longer. He's a retired cop in his 70's, grew up in L.A. and was a gearhead. He's already been all over the trucks.
I saw those on CL too, kept thinking I sould go over and take a look. Good thng I didnt cause I'd hae to own'em if they were still there! Good find
