Is there a drive in movie theater near where you live? We have a couple in Virginia that are on my to do list this year.
Our car club is having a car show at the Mayfield Drive In (Ohio) on May 25th with 5 bands, pin up contest, models for the kids to build, last year was a great time! And yes, if we get enough hot rods, customs this year, we will change the cut off year....the goal of the show is to make the Drive In money! Just our way of helping keep them around!
Big One up in Fort Lauderdale, 14 screens. here's the link... http://www.floridaswapshop.com/swap.html
There's a 4 screen drive-in, in Montclair,CA and it's called the Tiki Drive-in. Here is a link http://www.missiontiki.com/#/now/
Kansas City has 2 that we frequent...the Twin Drive In, 291 & Kentucky Rd, Independence MO and the I-70 Drive In, 40 Hwy & Stadium Dr Kansas City. 90% of the time we get in for $1 when we drive the '58.
Flint, Michigan. On Fenton rd. Opens for the season on April 19. Packs them in during "Back to the Bricks" in August.
Chula Vista, California has one and the Full Moon is now in San Diego. That would make 3 working drive ins in San Diego County!
Years ago, the Fort Myers, Florida drive in closed. However, the good news is that over the last several months they've been cleaning it up, painting, fixing the screen, built a very nice new concession stand.....but no word yet on opening. The classic car culture in this area is VERY excited for this. (as am I). BTW, Kenosha, Wisconsin is still open...The Keno drive in. $8 for adults and $4 for children for TWO first run movies every Friday Saturday Sunday rain or shine. God, I miss the heyday of the drive in. Young people these days don't what they're missing.
Looks like the North Fort Myers drive in is being restored and WILL BE OPEN in October! www.northsidefleamarket.com.
We had over the years 13 Drive Ins in Albuquerque, a big number for a relative small city. Use to go at least once a week, sometimes more in the summer. The last one closed over 15 years ago. Carlsbad NM still has one last I heard.
One over in Gu-Win on old 78, and another up near Russelville on 43. I stopped going in the seventies when Spaghetti Westerns were still the rage. I moved to So-Cal during that time and went to a bunch out there, in the Monclair, Claremont area and a few near Long Beach. I moved into Hollywood and lost interest, as my tastes changed. Maybe I'll go again, now I'm thinking about it. You can carry your own popcorn and beverages. Some of them let you tune in and listen with you car radio, which wouldn't be all that bad considering the state of the art systems that now exist. The old speakers were notorious for poor sound, and I have seen a couple of folks forget and pull off with them still in the window. Any horror stories?
