I have a 37 Buick it has an S10 rear end one of my axle shafts is bent ok i ordered a replacement for it well its 29 inches long and its too long 1/2 inch too long there fore my original one is 28 1/2 inches long 26 spline what did it come out of im really confused please help. Thank you Jose
A and g body GM's had 28 1/2 inch axles, but I thought they were all 7.5 inch 10 bolts. Edit: I re read your post and notice you don't mention if its a 7.5 or 8.5 s10 rearend. I don't know for sure but if it's a 7.5 out of an early drum brake rear s10 it may have shared the g body's axle length.
I'm not a GM differential expert, but do those rears have equal length shafts? Better to be too long than too short. You can have a machine shop shorten it.
Some of them had equal length, others had different lengths side to side. There is many variations of these rears it's a bit of a pain in the ass if you don't know what it came out of. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
4x4 s10 is wider than 2x4 s10 rear axles backing plate to backing plate, that might be your issue. Also; 82 s10 was a standard gm 10 bolt cut down.
