I bought one of these while I was on deployment for my flathead. I finally got around to starting it the other day and had no problems. I only ran it for a minute or so because the cooling system wasn't hooked up yet. I got everything ****oned up and started it again today. I let it run for about 15 minutes and shut it down. I went to start it again and the started locked up. It wasn't kicking the gear in or spinning. I took it apart and found the gears in the front in a million pieces. The center gear is fine, but the 4 planetary gears were all broken. I tried calling Powermaster but had to leave a message. I cranked this thing over maybe 10 times. It's a low compression street motor and starts after just a few spins. Powermaster says they don't have a warranty. Has anyone else run into a problem like this and what ended up happening? I'm starting to think I should have just used a rebuilt starter. the gears in the front seem very delicate. The outside gear that holds everything together is plastic.
I have not used that model of starter. I have a Powermaster alternator that I had a problem with-sent it to them -they rebuilt it,re-tested it and shipped it back-even called me to tell me what had failed and make sure it was working properly-And thank me for my Business-No complaints here!

So I got a call from Tommy at Powermaster the other day saying they were going to fix my starter and do a few upgrades. I got it back from them today, and it looks like they just sent me a brand new one. I had removed the sticker and it had some scratches form the install and those are all gone and it has a sticker on the case. Great customer service! I'm a customer for life.
It's refreshing to open one of these types of threads and find out all is well. Powermaster is a cl*** act.
I've had one on the engine in my 32 for a couple of years now. I think they're great. Plus, they weigh about 1/3 of the original Ford type. I couldn't be happier.
