Ben, Here's one for you. Just your average, nondescript 4 door.

No, I don't believe so. It has been 25 years but I remember buying that car and selling it. The problem is at my age I find out I can't believe everything I remember.

I AM sure I had a factory "R" code '64 Galaxie 4 door with a very interesting story behind it. I will dig out some pictures I took while I owned it and post. Your '65 is the only one I remember seeing anything about.

    .'64 R.jpg '64 R..jpg '64 r.jpg '64 R 4.jpg '64 "R" 427-425 4-speed 4 door Chicago Car

Here is a true story I hope you enjoy. It begins about 25 years ago with a Hemmings ad. The ad stated this car was a former "getaway" car, special ordered new by one of the Chicago crime families. When it was delivered to the customer the 427 emblems were removed to make it incognito. Also, the original one piece air cleaner was replaced with two low restriction cleaners. It was used as intended for several years and purchased by one of the city leaders and stored for many years. The ad stated it was totally original as described with only 4500 actual miles. Fourty Five hundred.... not fourty five thousand. I couldn't dial the phone number fast enough. The seller told me someone had already agreed to buy the car and would overnight a deposit for morning delivery. I told the seller if he didn't receive the deposit the next day I would wire a deposit to let him know I was serious.

I didn't expect to hear from the seller but the next day he called me after the deposit didn't come and he could not reach the buyer. I wired the deposit immediately. A few days later I picked the car up in Chicago. The seller said he never received a deposit check or heard back from the suppossed buyer but the phone was ringing off the hook from others. It was in immaculate condition with only a few blimishes. I expected much worse due to it's history. The picures below are the same pictures the seller overnighted me after receiving the wire transfer.

I had no doubt it was used as the seller stated but getting home found proof after removing the rear seat. There were a couple .38 bullits on the floor that had obviously fell out of someone's pocket through the seat.

In the 25 years since I have not seen another like it. Could it be the only one? I sold the car years ago but still have those bullits.

Great thread. I had a 62 406 XL Convert. I sold Fords 64-66 and a car we purchased at auction looked unusual to me. It was a 64 Galaxie 2 Door HT. It was white with thin rubber floor mats. It was a three speed stick, but the shift collar and shaft were unpainted pot metal. It had some old looking FE in it. I looked at the key fob and it said Kelly Ford. I'm sure it was the Kelly Ford R Code car, stripped to sell. I saw the car race. This was in the Chicago area.

Hitting the "wake-up" ****on on this thread for the new guys.:)

  21. I bought one of the first '63 1/2 Galaxie 427's when they came out. Unfortunately, I was a 22 year old idiot and sold it after 9000 miles. I think my ex may still have the window sticker from it. It was right at $3600. I keep waiting to find it in a barn somewhere........

Added this to my collection, as mentioned a few pages back in this thread, The Bobby Spears 64 Lightweight 4 speed car, so my 64 R code Cammer Galaxie has a friend to talk to in the shop. Eric

In '62, the old man ordered a new '62 Galaxie 2drht, 406, 4spd, Chesnut/black interior. After repeated push-backs on the order, he got disgusted an bought a new Monterey off the lot. 390/auto, pink with a white top. I was 8 yrs old and crushed....:(

Frank, I used to see that Fairlane when I would p*** your house in Cornelius on my way to my in-laws. I never new it was a real Thunderbolt, I thought it was probably a clone.

I kick myself now for not stopping to see it.

Stopped by a buddies shop today and he was working on reproducing a 64 light weight core support. Looks perfect! The Cammer is going in his 64 Country Squire wagon that will see duty towing his T-Bolt or 64 light weight. The core support is for a customer.

    Wow, Tommyd,

Had lunch today with a friend who recently bought a 63 Galaxy "R" car. He's looking for info, especially pictures in "as raced " condition..seems this car was bought at King Ford (Es*** Md) in '63 by Ed Skoloda, who worked at King.
He and his brother Paul, raced the car out of King Ford ,under the name "Mister Ed" There is info on the car racing at Cecil Co,plus others
It's a factory Burgundy and is not a lightweight
Anybody ,.by chance, have any pics of the car lettered as raced?
The current owner has done quite a bit of research and has contacted the original owners..
If you can help , just PM me for contact details
Just trying to help a friend..
