ok having some issues that are kicking my butt!! ok so on a 350 it starts runs and drives perfect for about 50 miles, i turn it off get back in has no trouble starting or idleing in park or N, but when i drop it in gear it sputters and wants to die, i can still drive it if i double foot it untill i get moving again but it does not want to idle in gear??? i can knock it in N and it idles fine? it seems to only do this when the motor is hot and has been driven awhile, ?? help i am pulling my hair out?
Mine did that, and I drove myself crazy curing it. First I found a vacuum leak (PO had joined 2 vacuum pipes with a T joint and left one side open). Cured it temporarily, but bogged on hills. Replaced the fuel pump as it felt like fuel starvation...no cigar. Replaced distributor because it felt like ignition problem. Retimed everything. Replaced accelerator pump, and I believe that cured it... What carb are you running? Mine is an edelbrock, and that accelerator pump was really shot. I don't know for sure what cured the problem, but check for vacuum leaks, and for $10 and 20 minutes, I'd try the accelerator pump.
What kind of carb, intake, is the carb connected to the distributor, is the choke connected to the exhaust, is there a choke furnace on the intake? Theres probably a couple other things to ask, just need info before everybody tells you you have a blown power valve and a leaking float. thanks, oj
What trans? Torque converter lockup problem? Does it feel like it's hard to hold 'er back when stopped in gear?
It is a eldlebrock carb and intake, the carb is hooked to the distributor, I checked for vacum leaks with some starter fluid didn't see any? It is a manual choke, sorry if this is crap I am trying to type it on my phone
Check manifold to head gaskets as well. Could be getting hot and opening up somewhere. I'm no help on edelbrock carbs. Stick a good holly on and see what happens. Replace all vacuum lines to anything. They split down the seam.
At minimum, last stroker SBC I built, had a semi high rise manifold along with a 2.5 inch spacer strictly to keep it outta the heat.
I think the spacer is going to be my first shot that was the first thing my carb guru said to! I have checked every mile of vacuum hose on the car and it ALOT! Power brake vacuum leak could be a possibility thanks guys for the ideas!
Looks like my fuel line was to close to the headers and the fuel was getting to hot we rerouted and threw some heat shield on it. I drove about 100 miles and no issues so far, I will be amazed if that cures the problem but so far so good.
