Hi Hot Rod Fans, I read a book when I was in juinior high and would like to read it again. But when age catches up to you, and you can`t remember the ***le you need to ask some professionals. Thr book starts out where some guy wrecks his car on a tree and a teenager buys the wreck and makes it into a hot rod. When he drives it through town he opens up the cutouts and gets chased and caught by the cops when his engine quits. He rebuilds the car with some help from a scottisch mechanic who always says "floosh the radiator". I think at the end he drives against a guy named duck(?) in a race to see how many laps they can go on one tank of gas. I thought this book might be from Henry Gregor Felsen, but I have street rod and hot rod and they are definitly not it! I live in germany now, and I can't just run to the library and look them up. Hopefully someone knows which book I am talking about.
Hi Dahuxu! Welcome to the Hamb! I was gonna say Felson, but I guess not. "Floosh the radiator" doesn't ring a bell...lol. Sounds very similar to Felson's stories though. But someone here will know...guaranteed. I'm sure some others here would be interested to know too. Hey...do an intro as requested of all new members. It's near the top of the forum page. It's just a courtesy thing, ya know. Glad you have you here.
"Floosh the radiator" with a scottish accent comes from a Felsen book ***led "Hill Climb" was about a kid that ended up with an MG TD and raced against another local Kid on a "Hill Climb" type of race. The mechanic was also a ex sports car race driver, That book taught me about cut off points on a curve and about how to power out of a corner when I was about 15 or 16 Back before recorded history of this past time. or should I say ..obsession?
Could be, TG...but here's a list of Felsen's books, (Wikipedia) and it doesn't include "Hill Climb". Maybe the list isn't complete. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Felsen A Google search for "Henry Gregor Felsen Hill Climb" doesn't bring it up. I even tried just "Book Hill Climb" and nothing from Mr. Felsen. Tried "Floosh the radiator" too...nothin'. Anybody know?
Sounds almost like The Red Car By Don Stanford about a kid who bought and rebuilt a MG TC but in that book he rebuilt the car back to stock and then raced it in a sports car race.
