not a new question by no means but still you never know if someone has some info out there that didnt awnser before. I have a 1955 Buick Special that im looking at yanking the original running gear out and replacing with a 12 bolt posi rearend and making the car a open driveline. With a 350/350 powerplant.my question is this. Any advice in doing a 4 link with the springs?or anytype of 4 link at all.i also understand that the frame has to be altered.I have a professional welder at hand and am looking at taking the body off to perform this.any advice helps thanks
common issue, do a search on the truck arm suspension swap. I am undecided on how to convert my 55 special, isnt on the short list as far as projects go.
This car already has a truck arm type of suspension I believe and should be an easy swap. You would probably have to angle your new pads on the housing to fit right, but other than that it shouldn't be too bad. You can probably cut your spring mounts off and re weld them on or buy bag plates and run bags, my neighbors 52 is done this way just needs to do a notch or add some bumpers to keep the axle off the frame.
Heres a great page with some good pictures of fabbing up the brakets to work with the truck arms. Its an older buick but the same set-up would work on your chassis. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=588761&page=3
Moving the X bracing on my 55 Buick I put a 4 link in my 55 Buick. This was a smooth install and decent on the pocket book.
