I would guess that 4" would be too much. Measure the distance between the stops(on the frame) and top of the rear end. Let us know.

Edited to add "with a full tank of gas"

I think 3" is good and I also bought air shocks. Then it dawned on me....the front! Well I alled Eaton Detroit Spring Co and they will make springs to lower for $160. How much lower should I go in front?

    Look at my avatar.
That's 2 inch, and new shorter springs in the front (half a coil), and new air shocks in the back with just a touch of air in them that they have to have.
Any lower in the front and we'd have to switch to 14 inch rims which I didn't want to do.
    She Sits like a tail-dragger.
Should give you a good idea of what it would look like

I have a stock '64. I put 1" blocks in the rear to "level" it out from the factory.

I also have a '64 wagon I put 3" blocks in the rear with 1 1/2 or possibly 2 coils cut from the stock front springs.

Both are original stock suspention with 390's

    Thanks!
    We think so, too.

It's got a nice 1960's tail dragger kinda-look, but not where it looks like we should be playing Santana CD's while driving while "hittin' the switches", if you know what I mean. The Surpreme's with white walls top it off
