I picked up a 47 Ford 1-1/2 ton tow truck, pretty much rust free, I'm gonna put the cab on an S-10 ch***is, lowered with a big block Chevy, 5 speed,I was told the front fenders of the 1-1/2 ton have a larger opening thus may look funky on a pick-up, has anyone done this swap can give me some insight, if I have to I will just sell the fenders and get some gl*** pick up fenders if its that drastic, also found some steel bed suppliers, was wondering if anyone can give pros / cons on different companies, also EZ Swap bracketry for bolting down the body on the S-10 ch***is, anyone ever use it and has anyone done the 47 Ford S-10 ch***is swap can give me some insight. Sorry for all the hot air, thanks in advance.
Do a search here on the S-10 swap. You proably wont get a lot of replies since this is a trad. site. Good luck.
I actually found a huge thread on here abt. it like 20 pages, though its was shut down, but it was mostly abt. Chevy's, don't know how much different the Ford is, and couldn't fiond anything abt. the 1-1/2 tone fenders having a bigger opening than the pickup.
OK well S-10 aside, the fender question is pretty traditional, and you guys would know better than anyone if they are same, different, look ****ty, someone must have tried to use the 1-1/2 ton fenders on a pickup. Maybe they are the same and the guy i got it from was wrong??
I love those 42-47 Ford Trucks.... I am not 100% but I think 1/2 ton through 2 ton shared the same cab and fenders?? I have seen others and they look the same.
The guy I got it from claimed the front fenders were bigger openings fit the larger tires when turning and I should weld up some kinda lip to close them up more for pick up use, I hate to even do that, might be worth more to someone looking for something for a larger truck, and I would go gl*** if I had to, just trying to confirm.
The front fender radius *IS* bigger on your truck. Cab is same as the 1/2 ton pickup, in fact all reg cabs are the same no matter what the weight rating of the truck. Any frame swap you need to be able to fabricate mounts.
So can I still use my grill or I would have to use the 40 pointy wedge style grill,if so what else would be needed to switch to that grill style ??
Does anyone make a patch panel for that area immediately above the windshield, the top of the windshield on the p***enger side must have leaked and it rotted abt. 3-4" wide and it includes that little 3/8-12" roll in the metal, or I would just make it myself, or will I end up making it myself!?!?
Buy a '40 or '41 if you want to go that way. Otherwise, all that you have is a cab that will work. The fender openings are too big. The value of the truck fenders are not that much because others are wanting to do the same thing that you want to do. So go ahead and cut them up. I do not know what it would take for them to look like pickup fenders. Search and you should be able to find pictures of pickups with truck fenders.
Ya I've decided to just stick with all 47 stuff,if I'm forced to, I can always use gl*** fenders, I've been looking , but haven't found any [ickup fender except a few rotted and dented ones on e-bay.
Kinda makes sense it had a one pice fibergl*** headliner and there was a mouse nest up on it, so it probably peed and ran down the gl*** and settled on the inner windshield header.
Heres some pics of my junk while we are waiting for his pics I scored this cab and ch***is last year from a buddy ....and a big pile of parts , no idea what Im gonna do with it yet or when ...
