I have a 59a with a Merc crank w/double pulley topped with a Fenton 2x2 intake. I am having issues with generator placement. The only place that it looks like it would work would be way out on the driver side, but isn't very pleasing to the eye.

The car has to run a 6volt generator. I noticed model a generators are much smaller and an bracket could be made much easier.

    any thoughts/tips?

as you can see I allready butchered one generator so I could mount my fan.

The intake you're using is an 8BA super dual, with the carbs wide spaced, and requires the generator to be relocated over one of the heads. The solution would be to find a regular dual (carbs spaced close) 8BA intake, since you've converted your early engine to a late 8BA model except for heads. This will allow the generator in the stock location.
One problem you will have is trying to retain the 8BA road draft tube operation on an early engine, as the ventilation systems are very different. The front vertical tube on an early engine leads directly to the vent on the lower right front of that 59 pan, which is the exit or road draft on early '35-'48 engines. The vertical tube on 8BAs leads to the crank case, where fumes are drawn up and out the road draft tube.

OK, anybody got a "regular dual" intake they would like to trade?

I think the biggest problem is that I'm using the wrong generator.

Don't matter. You still won't have room for a generator with that manifold. If you get an 8BA style regular type manifold your OK. OR, run an alternator, OR hang it off to the side which is pretty much what was intended.

Hey Joe. I am in the procsss of buying a Fenton intake like that for my 8CM Merc flathead. I sent off the money order yesterday. I'm going to keep my eye on this thread so I know what I'm in for.

  11. The 59AB version of the Fenton has the same issues. I have an 8BA with the 59AB intake and am trying to sort that issue out as well.

ok, so I'll be on the look out for a later style generator. Which of these aftermarket mounts do you think would work better?

I'm pretty sure if you put 4" spacers under the carbs the generator can be mounted on the top of the intake. be careful removing the old studs those fentons are on the thin side and fragile.

I used a Edelbrock regular dual intake on my 8BA with twin 94's and a '57 thru '64 12 volt generator. Everything clears just fine.

You need something like this to match your intake. :D
