I have a Ford rear end that was in a 56 pickup and I don't know what it is. There is no tag on it and I am not very smart about these things. It has 10 bolts on a checkered pattern pumpkin, 2 dimples and a drain plug on the back, and no hood over the yoke. In one checker there is a horizontal 3. Below that it has DIF with another F facing the yoke. Above that it has 0A18 upside down. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Gary.

I forgot to say that it has a 5 on 51/2 bolt pattern. I'll see if I can figure out pictures.

It could be the stock Dana 44. I took mine out of my '53 and s****ped it several years ago so I can't compare what you described..

OP's description does not fit Dana 44 configuration.

If it has a removeable third member (pumpkin) and 5 x 5 1/2" bolt circle, it has to be early F-100 9" rear end. Only trucks and Broncos used that combination. That also is confirmed by smooth back with 2 dimples and 'checkered' or waffled' pattern on front side of diff.
