Last week all we hopped in the van and went on a roadtrip. DAY 1 Stop 1: Bob's Broiler in Downey. Great burgers and the Shakes were too damn good. Stop 2: At the top of the G****vine, we stopped at Fort Tejon (I tried to schedule stops about every 2 hours, I knew that the boys would go wacko if I didn't). Really nice little park, there are Civil War era fort, barracks, a jail and clean bathrooms. In the parking lot these 2 guys pulled up towing a trailer with a really nice 28-29 Model A RPU. Isn't there a Dragoons car club? As we ate dinner at the KernRiver BBQ we watched the fires come over the ridges around the valley we were in. I sure hope this place is still standing, I want to go back one day. I love the old Motel signs. It was a real trip swimming in the pool while fire helicopters flew overhead on the way to dump water on the flames. Day 2: The next morning the entire valley was socked in with smoke. Instead of playing in the Kern River we took off... Not on our intended route through the National Park. Day 3 and 4: Our next stop was near the entrance to the Sequoia National Park. Hidden under a car cover was this amazing 1946 Ford. Few pix of the car: (SEE ALL THE PIX) It's for sale. Even if you are not interested in buying the car, you should read the story. I was completely blown away. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=498694 The cabins we stayed in were perfect. 2 bedrooms, a little kitchen. No TV. On the property was a lake with canoes. The kids loved it. We spent the next 2 days doing all the cool stuff that you can do in the SNP. We climbed Moro Rock, we did the tour of Crystal Caves and we hiked down to see General Sherman. No bear sightings for the SDJ family. On the evening of day 4 we arrived in Pasadena. We were staying at the Saga Motor Hotel, right on the Rose Parade route. S****y joint with HUGE rooms.
Day 5: My daughter wanted to see Beverly Hills, so we drove the length of Wilshire Blvd. (God, I hate LA traffic). The big "7" was the speed that we were going. We finally made it to the Petersen. (SEE ALL THE PIX) I loved the cut down windshield on this Corvette I'm so glad that I finally got to see the Museum. It was really nice to meet thebigdaddyo. Next time I'll have to drag you out to the parking lot so you can show me your El Camino. Well... that's it. Great trip. Next time I want to do it in my '52 pulling the '60 Shasta that my wife just scored. thanks for looking - Joe
Thanks guys, it was super fun. It's been almost a week back at work and I'm having a hard time getting back into work-mode. - Joe
