So my mechanic/autobody guy has had this car for a while, I've known him for probably 5 years and I'm safely ***uming he's owned it before that since it was there when I use to deliver parts to him. And this car is kind of haunting me to own. Sitting there collecting dust just begging to be pulled out of its resting spot and freshened up.

From what I've gained over the years of casual conversation its either a 34 or 35 Plymouth vicky(s) . He told me it's got a Chevy v6 4.3 , not sure if a tpi, tbi or carb as I haven't seen under the hood. Guessing backed up to it is either a th350, 400 or a 700r4 or the 200r4. Car hasn't been run in years but from what I've been told the gas lines are clear and just need fresh gas and a quick checkover before turning over.

All of the sheet metal is rust free and panels are straight and he even frenched in an antenna in the rear p***enger upper corner. From what I can tell on the roof and interior it's one of the 90s sliding ragtops and the carpet/tweed interior. The interior is pulled out right now but is within the same building as the vehicle, he's got quite a few cl***ic cars being worked on and this is one of his personal vehicles. He's 74 and has been doing it since 1955 and still even does lead work. The paint is good on it and I believe an old single stage paint , it just needs a good wash and buff to bring up to 100% .

All the gl*** is there and only one of them has a crack In the pane.

He's told me a number in the past and right now I'm not going to release it as to not influence your opinion , but I wanted to get your guys opinion of what you think is fair market for it. He's telling me one price and I feel that it's worth about half of that. Hopefully an outside perspective will help me persuade or dissuade me from buying it.

looks really nice but 4 doors are hard to sell so are six cyls ---if you plan to keep it it's worth more than if you try to flip it---can't guess on the price...

Well I would be buying to keep and probably swap out the motor to a v8 , I'm a bigger guy and was looking at a Tudor sedan before so this size 4dr doesn't bother me

It is only worth what someone is willing to pay. To one person it might be worth 10 grand to others 20 grand.

It looks like a 33ply PC.I had one myself many years ago.Mine had a 360 mopar engine, auto in it(very fast). After having it for many years,i wanted a sportier version and could not sell it for what i wanted.I later traded it for a 29 ford roadster which i wanted.I agree with black 62.Stay away from 4 doors unless its a keeper.Still think they are beautiful cars though.I would offer no more than $8000.Just my opinion.

You probably couldn't buy one out of a feild and get it to that point for 10k.... But It's a 4door. Got a family? then a 4 door is great! a v6 is kinda weak, but t'll blow the doors off what that car came out with.

Ok since there's enough unbiased opinions so far, he told me with it running again he wanted $25k and I just don't see it in that vehicle. I see 8-10k and maybe 12k pushing it. Figuring I would need 500 for wheels and tires and probably 2500 to redo the complete interior. He seems pretty adamant about his price but don't know if showing up with a stack of hundreds would change his mind. I kinda feel its like one of those guys that has a car sitting and says nah I'm gonna restore it one of these days, except this ones already been restored.

I wouldn't pay 10 grand for it myself.

Not running, Gl*** not installed? Needs wheels? and what else?

He is dreaming at $25grand....It will go at auction to settle his estate....

While it depends on what type of car you want, you can buy a good driveable rod at almost any show for 25K or less.

What they said ^ Paying any over 10k is not wise. Don't buy 4 doors and expect to get 2 door money, it ain't gonna happen. 25K is stupid money often asked by people who watch too much tv.

A BUDDY OF MINE IS SELLING SOMETHING SIMILAR, and i know from that deal that out here in the left coast region, and on evil-bay, you might push it to 11k or just slightly above that, but my advice is ditch those nasty 80's wheels and get something more period correct and it'll sell a lot faster!

Between $5k and $10k depending on actual condition, and workmanship, and provided that he agrees to keep those awful wheels and tires, so you are not burdened with being seen with them, or having to dispose of them.

Yeah my budget for a car in the future is between 10 and 15k for what I want. A short history of me is that I've worked autobody for 2 years when I was going thru college and have built 3 older cars before ( 61 bubble impala, 77 Chevy c10 with a 454 out of a dually, and 81 Cadillac ) , I despise rust with a p***ion and I know that building a car the biggest percentage of money sunk in is bodywork and motor work. I'd like to find something Pre 54 , due to the nice body styles and simplicity of design , that just needs interior and a paint job. I've looked here on the hamb cl***ifieds but it seems like to me that I can't find what I'm looking for, or if I do the price is higher due to cost of living of different markets such as cali or NY.

Ya, he is still "lost in the 80s" with that car. It would need all the things mentioned here just to get it so its not embarasing you at a cruise-in. And like was mentioned,"he's been watching too many TV car auctions". Or doesn't realize street rod values have dropped way off. Normal Norman

Yeah I know him well enough that probably he's not going to come off much off his price. Oh well. Guess my gut instinct was right on this one for pricing. Guess my only other option is to goto local big car shows ie billetproof in ocala, slam fest in tampa, and turkey rod run in Daytona and bring cash. The one thing I will give to my mechanic / autobody guy is that he knows his mechanical knowledge and autobody knowledge and knows how to work the metal and how it will respond. Like I tell people that refer to him, he may charge a few bucks more and may take a few days extra , but stuff is done right the first time, he's not a bonds ******* and tries to use the least amount necessary. He's been in the same location since 1970 and doing it since 1955 and you don't stay in business that long if your doing it wrong. How many 74 year olds do you know that still work 16 hour days running a full shop.

I know some guys love 'em, but in general, putting money into a four door is a dead end street. They can be a ton of fun and I love 'em for what they are, but you're almost certain to lose your *** if you dump money into one. I don't think this car is an exception.

    Good luck...

WOW! He's out of his mind. 25k is an insult for that car and you should tell him. You'd be 30k+ to have it running and updated a bit. If he could get anywhere near 25k, it wouldn't still be sitting in his garage outdated and not running.
Like someone said, it'll sell at his estate. Probably for 8k tops.

With 30 k you could buy or build yourself a much nicer, and up to date car (like a Hot Rodded A Coupe) that would be more desireable than the 4 dr. Plymouth.

I've tended to stay away from craigslist as it seems in the orlando market it's either rat rods that need bodywork or 40k plus turn keys.

And since I'd like to continue business with him ill probably just have to come with cash one day and make a direct offer and see what he says cause otherwise he might not take the conversation so lightly since both of us are Italian heritage and can get heated in discussions.

I'd say 7-8K as is. 15 k if it was completed, running and driving.
