guys i am having a problem selling one of my cars. i am selling this 1960 cadillac flattop sedan. new mexcio car , great runner and driver. the ***le is clear! its registered and tagged in virgina. i have insurancce on the car and i have no problem to drive it up and down the road. i got the car from and estate sale in new mexico. in order to get the ***le clear i had to get an ***urity bond on the car. after going through the process i got the ***le clear and in my name. new mexico sent out vin inspectors to make sure the car wasnt stolen or fraudulent. the inspectors put a "***igned new mexcio vin tag" on the car. as i understood the "***igned vin" was supposedly the new vin that the car is using to be identifed by. fast forward to today. i am tyring to sell the car in north carolina. carolina sent out vin inspectors to check the vin. they told the buyer that the vin from new mexico cancelled out the vin from the frame. so i looked into that notion. i asked new mexico to send me a copy of teh ***le that was originally drafted. and on the ***le they have the vin number from the frame. NOT the vin number that was ***igned. i asked the lady on the phone to run the "***igned" number in the system....when she did , NOTHING came up. i asked her, is there a mistake? i gave her the number again, and she said that nothing in system is coming up showing that the "***igned" number is registered. so i asked her, if the ***igned number i snot registered....what number are they using? she said the VIN FROM FRAME. so now, i have two states. virgina and new mexico, recognizing the vin from the frame! But as i understand carolina will not accept the ***le from virgina. this makes me absolutly crazyeeee. Has anyone ever ran into this dilemma before? does anyone know in more information then this? if i have two ***les from two different states that are recognizing the vin from the frame...but carolina will not recognize it? what can i do about this? what , if anything can i do to sell the car in Carolina?
I'm not a laywer and don't pretend to know the actual answer and I'm not advocating this per se, but if both VA and NM are ***led as the frame number and your ***le in hand says that and the computer systems says that then seems like you could just remove the ***igned number plate and your problem disappears (you'll have to find another inspector though). at that point the frame vin matches ***le vin which is what NC wants. save the plate and the paperwork just in case. the whole ***ling issue here in NC has gotten out of hand the last few years. I'm sitting on a clear ***le right now that I didn't transfer for a number of reasons when i got the car and the previous owner has since p***ed away--I hate to see what kind of havock that's going to create.
Looks to me like your problem is with New Mexico. Do you have any do***entation from the bonding and ***igned vin process? NM should either correct their mistake and issue a new ***le using the ***igned vin, or remove the ***igned vin. I can't help but wonder if the inspector wasn't supposed to attach the new vin?
here is what the department of new mexico sent me on email and i had faxed to the carolina vin inspectors offices. it is a copy of the old ***le as it is shown in their system...i dont know if it is ok to post this, but if anyone steals it they will go to jail. so feel free. as it shows the car is registered in my name and the "frame vin" 60a...is the one they are using to ***le the vehicle. same as the va ***le.
as you guys can see, i edited some numbers from this picture, but new mexico has the car registered in their system as FRAME VIN...60A....POPS and FALCON....i will call new mexico state police department and ask them about removing the vin. and to send a letter to both va and nc saying that the vin is not registered in the system and that it isnt the regitstered vin...... i agree with you guys, i have two ***les here and both showing frame vin....no idea where the issue could be now...
thats what i am thinking mannn!! grrrr..and now i am in a big fuss , kind of over nothing.....well i had new mexico fax these papers over to the vin inspectors offices and the dmvs. so i will have a answer for you guys by tomorrow....
