Hello All, I have gotten a lot of great advice from this forum by just happening on here during my searches, but I have finally decided to join in the discussions. My wife and I own a '50 Merc Lead sled, and there is a lot that I want to do to update and restore it. I figure there are a ton of pros and gear heads available here so what better place to get advice. I do have a quick question, before getting to far into the meat of my project; I have a Carson top that came with the car when we purchased it and it has been sitting in our shop for quite some time, I would like to go another way with the look of the car and I have been trying to sell the top. is there any website in particular that would make it easier to unload something like that? Looking forward to all of your comments and assistance. The Pic below was taken the day we took the merc to storage.
we are going to go with a matte black paint job and crimson red pin stripes, the interior and upholstery will be a deep burgandy with black tubing, and I am looking at a couple of crate engines (found a great one that I want link to follow shortly) to swap the small block out with. I want to move the shifter from the floorboard back to the column. (new steering column) I would like to install a De Soto Grille. New exhaust... New stereo (from Retro stereo.com) New brake light set up (may be some fab work involved) I did manage to tweak my hood catch (heavy hood came down on the small pin) and now it wont latch. I am reluctant to beat it up too much to fix it any recommendations? Air system needs to be updated. **I would like to upgrade the brakes, I have found a kit at SSBC but I need mustang spindles. Currently still running drum brakes and this is a Heavy beast to stop so a nice set of Big Boy Discs up front would come in handy. That is what I have so far.... Thoughts?
