I am new to the HAMB, and hope this is the right place to ask a NEWBIE question.
I purchased a 48 F1 with a 226 flathead and it is missing the head and a few other bits, and have given up trying to find a head. Plus I don't know if the block can be rebuilt, it has set many years. I have located a 49 2 door shoebox that has a 226, the owner said he would part with just the 226. Is there any differences I need to watch out for? The F1 has a 3 speed trannie, and the shoe box has an overdrive trannie. Will my 3 speed bolt up?
The only difference I can see is the exhaust manifold outlet is on the other side of the carb, which I have found out here I can use both manifolds and make a split manifold. I've only had a bit of experience with Willys jeeps flathead motors.

The truck 3 speed is a non-synchro I believe. If you can get the car OD trans, that would be a lot better for freeway driving.

    OK,
That F-1 should have the top shift 3 speed. It is syncronized in 2nd and 3rd like the car transmission. The optional truck floor shift 4 speed was not syncronized.
You will have to use the truck bellhousing on the car 226. Since a the clutch linkage is set up for the F-1 transmission it will be far easier to use the truck's transmission.

Truck and car front mount brackets are different. Use the truck brackets and motor mounts. For some reason the truck water pump is different from the car but I'm not sure if it matters.

there have been at lease 2 stock heads on ebay in the last 6 mos.,the freight would probably cost more than the head!don't give up too quickly.aluminum heads are a whole 'nother deal for the ford 6,might as well be made of gold!!
