Thats the main difference between racing and rodding. You dont HAVE to be OCD to build a hot rod...

I asked my Grandpa about this one time and he told me. "They are always supposed to face the sun".

Gentlemen...GENTLEMEN....definitely NOT an OCD thing. I've come across things that seemed to be no big deal at the time, but proved consequential later on. My thought process was something along the lines of "I wonder if Ford designed the inner channels of the bushings to work on more of a gravity feed, and if the zerk (and axle) actually had a front/back orientation, then maybe it wouldn't circulate the grease around the kingpins correctly. Dumb? maybe. I've fallen prey to that sunnovabeeyotch, Murphy, too many times lately. I'm trying to whip that ******* before he gets me again!

Aaah, we still have about 47 variables and 75 unknowns before we can worry about any of that, since every grease we can get is different in weight, flow etc. and all are different that whatever Henry used.
The big deal is to shoot some grease in there regularly!
I think that kid is about big enough to work a grease gun...that way, your hands don't get dirty.

Would guess that instead of it being more "sensible", you just lack the power to cause any damage, over 70 years.

It dosen't matter unless you have a high horsepower car with lots of traction but Ilike to install them so there in the compression part of the joint.
