    Clayton,
Well....I'm still alive but the Dust Bowl is currently buried behind three motorcycle projects and a winter's worth of hovel in the garage!! Really all I'm going to do to it this season is install my high compression head, new intake and carb. I need to install my freshly, rebuilt Whippet radiator and grille shell and some other, minor things. I'd also like to get new rear tires and make up a new deck lid. Other than this stuff, I just want to drive it as much as I can. I've kicked around the idea of selling it (when the money gets tight in the winter) but I think I'll hang onto it for a while I guess. Oh....and a top might be in the works too!

I'm kind of bummed that "Webshots" shut down because most of my pictures on this thread were hosted there. I either need to start a new thread about it or go back in and repost them from another site.

So...I've finally put some time in on the roadster. As ususal, I'm rushing around at the last minute trying in vain to get little stuff done to make it to the annual, Mid-west HAMB-BQ, put on in Abilene by our very own, NOSURF (Jay). i've only tried to make it to the last 100 of them with no luck. This year...I hope will be different. I mounted my sweet *** intake that Bill Carlson (BCCHOPIT) fabbed up for me and I love the look of it!! Totally fits the car and the era!! I pined over setting up the throttle and as usual, was over thinking the linkage to the Holley 94. I didn't want to clutter up the intake by welding on a bracket and levers and I don't have time to work up my original s**** pedal and arm so I just heated and bent the original arm up so it would pull insted of push the rod. So simple, it stinks. I over think everything....then I rigged up a set of return springs, bent the rod to fit and it works. Not fancy, not pretty but works!! For now anyway until I get the s**** pedal rigged up. Then I ran some quick lines to the carb (yes....I know that some folks say that copper is taboo and I understand why but it'll work for a while and I carry a huge fire extiguisher). I didn't have any steel line and didn't want rubber all the way to the carb so I robbed this chunk of copper tubing off of another deal, bent it around some and it works too...for now. I fired it off, made some slight adjustments to the carb and blasted around the block. The intake and carb work great and there sure seems to be a difference in responsivness from the throttle with the 94 versus the stock intake and carb. I'm happy as hell!! Now...BCCHOPIT is sending along my new exhaust manifold(s)....... More to come!!!

Hey Bugs, is that Winfield a 6:1 or 7:1? (First number on the serial pad will tell)

I picked up a 6:1 "yellow head" that needed a small crack welded up in just about the same place yours was repaired. Got it cleaned up & painted...dig these old speed parts!

Ok if you're workin on your chit I better start too!

The best thing about the 94 is the engine will wind out a little higher rpm's.
The updrafts are fun around town,
but also act like a rev limiter.
    Maybe that's a good thing!

Awesome, both on the progress and that you should have it at Jay's I'm hoping to get alot of good video of the day and put together something worth watching instead of just posting a billion photos of it this year. That way they can HEAR that banger crackle to life

Mike, I'm looking forward to it too! Should be a good time for sure!

gwhite...you have a sweet set up!! It's like the Winfield trifecta!! Mine is a 7:1. I would love to have it on before Saturday but that's not going to happen. The Winfield head, Mallory dual point and the Whippet radiator and shell are the next in line for this deal. I will have the exhaust mounted up though from BCCHOPIT. They will be here on Thursday...I'm pumped!!

Man...you work circles around me and get more done in a day than I do in 6 months!! How's my favorite '40 coming along?? Ready to sell it yet??! I know of a certain, rusty and blue '27 roadster that I would be happy to trade for it!!:D

Man...it would be cool to meet you and yes...we could tear up some dirt around Jay's place!! Maybe sometime soon!

Tim...with the exhaust that I'll have on it, you'll be able to hear it a mile away! It'll probably sound like a Farmall Super M on crack!! Looking forward to it!!

HAHAHA!!! That was too good!! It was Jay's Speedster that scared him away!!! The sight of Jay rolling up in the speedster is enough to scare off most posers and old women!!

Thanks for checking in, Bro!! I hope all is well and that you're taking care of my truck and '54!!:D

    TRUE DAT!!!!!

HAHAHA!! Like I said before, I'd never make it in Hollywood! It is a good feeling though to drive a project under it's own power for the first time, even if it's just down the alley!!

Thanks, Flowmeister!! I appreciate your comments on the Dust Bowl. I need to get re-motivated and spend some more time with it. I have fun every time I work on it and make even a small bit of progress...you know how that goes!

1000 miles??!! Oh man...I'm not sure if I could make a run like that but it would be an adventure!! I'm still at a point with this car that I count it as a success if I make it to the store and back without an issue!!

Glad to see you're back on this.
And every time gwhite posts that picture of his engine I have to run out to the garage and make sure my engine is still there.

HA!! I thought that was gwhite's engine too! That's funny! Man...I'm super jealous and would kill for a Winfield carb!!! Very nice and I LOVE your roadster!!!!

Well...It took me forever to find the Whippet grille and radiator. I have two shells but only the one radiator. I didn't end up paying much for it but had to spend some on it at the radiator shop. I still have to plumb it as the outlet is on the wrong side. My radiator guy didn't want to move it out of fear of screwing the whole deal up. I also have to come up with a radiator cap that will fit it.

Not sure about the cam yet. Any suggestions?? My engine is really a giant question mark as I don't know it's history at all. Just seems to run ok but I'm sure it's bone stock. I cannot really afford to go crazy with this banger. You can get a lot of dough tied up in them in a real hurry!!

Dude! Glad to see you back at it and making progress!

That is also a pretty good goal to shoot for. If it wasn't so far away, I would chase you there in my roadster :D

You would be surprised...these old bangers can be rather inexpensive and can built on the cheap. You could probably run a moderate cam and aluminum pistons with a fairly stock motor for next to nothing and get decent results.

I don't know what cams are out there....don't know those "new fangled Model A's" very well :D

    Clayton,
Good to hear from you, Bud! Well...I might just look into it and see what my options would be. I have a rebuilt and ready to run, 21 stud flatty that I've thought about dropping into this someday but I'm really into the banger stuff and it would kind of kill the car in some ways. I just need to run it a while and start doing some research. Might make for a good, winter project! I wish you were closer too...someday it would be fun to get the roadsters together!

    Sending you a PM.

As for the cam, I ended up going with a Winfield SU-1R (Jim Brierley regrind). Specs out to 266*/.350" - should be a good match to your head & carb. Also upgraded to a bronze cam gear & matched crank gear from Dan McEachern.
