Decided to get off my wallet and quit being a window shopper. My son (31)& I went the Good Guys car show at Texas Motor Speedway a month or so ago and it got the juices flowing. I've wanted an old truck for years but talking to pickup owners it became clear the small cabs limited sharing the fun. There was a half built 36 Chevy Master Deluxe sedan that was really appealing but too $$$ with the amount of work still to be done. I started down that late 30's Chevy road surffin the internet. I drove half way across Texas one weekend to drive an original 36 that was pretty rough but had a lot of potential. Again, just seamed like to much work at this stage of life. All the finished cars were running $20k to $30k and most of them were just too steep $$$. We went to the swap meet at the Lone Star Park (horse racing) just a mile away a couple of weeks later and bingo, I found the right combination of drive able hot rod with plenty of opportunity to work on, customize and make it "my" car. I posted photos if your interested. The running gear/engine is basically a late 70's Camero. The car was built about 10-12 years ago by a gentleman who has since p***ed. it's powered by a 350 Chevy with Edlebrock 600 cfm Carb w/ RPM AirGap manifold, ****** headers. It has an unknown performance cam. 3-spd Chevy auto trans, power brakes / steering and runs good on the freeways. Which is good since most everywhere you go in North Central Texas requires a freeway. Now I've opened that forgotten drawer in my tool box with the timing light, compression gauge, vacuum gauge, dwell meter, etc.etc.and am trying to remember all I use to do to that 1962 Chevy Impalla w/327 my dad gave me back in the 70's. We'll there's my introduction. Hope it p***es muster with all you old farts.
Oh Yea, the wheel has got to go, but I've got a number of more important issues first. It's get bad hesitation from idle and is back firing especially when cold.
very nice, my father has a 1939 Chevy coupe. Had one when he was 17 in 1972. Sold it in 1985 and when he got back from Iraq in 2006 he said he would find it and buy it back. lucky for him he found it, guy restored it and made it wonderful but wouldnt sell it so we travelled to california to buy one. I love the look of that year. One of a kind. Congrats and good luck.
