So, I'm in the process of scanning my Fiance's Parents old slides to the computer as a surprise. I came across these photos and figured you'd all get a kick out of them. Her Grandfather, Father, and mystery couple
Google says this: "April 22October 18, 1964 and April 21October 17, 1965. Admission price for adults (13 and older) was $2 in 1964 but $2.50 in 1965, and $1 for children (212) both years.[3]"
I was there in '65. I'll see if I can find some of my "car-type" pix, scan 'em, and post 'em. It was a lot of fun...good exhibits from both Ford & GM. Jonnie www.legends.thewwbc.net
A US Royal Ferris wheel and the Chrysler display? EDIT: A US Royal Ferris Wheel with an interstate shot from 1965. Just figured people here might like to see that...
Thanks for the memories... I went there many times. (Also "Freedomland" around the same time. Anybody else remember that?) Lots of Auto related attractions there; GM had you riding through the future in the latest models of their cars I also remember that the People Transporters had Mopar taillights
Do they still do World's Fairs? Never hear anything about them. Perhaps I'll hit da' Google master...
Last one I remember was in Knoxville Tn in the 80's...as for the US Royal Tire it has been sitting off of I-94 freeway going into Detroit for as long as I can remember. They brought it there after the fair and set it up...no longer a ride, but still a cool roadside attraction for anyone coming into the city
I was at the fair in '64. Remember seeing the Chrysler Turbine powered car, and riding thru the Ford exhibit in a Galaxie convertible.
The tire still sits along side the I-94 freeway near Southfield in Detroit. Brings back memories every time I travel to the airport. It's been updated a few times over the years. Changed from the bias ply look to more of a radial. Trivia LOL
