It was the Chrisman Bros coupe "customized" by George Barris

Text & pic from trading card

<CENTER>Take an old 1931 Model "A" Ford, add $10,000.00 in time and materials, and build a sensational Bonneville LSR coupe. That's what Kustom King George Barris did and the resulting vehicle attained speeds of over 200 m.p.h., then became a star on the Dobie Gillis TV Show and appeared in Car Craft Magazine. The car is now being toured by the Promotions, Inc., Show Car Division.
The original coupe body has been streamlined via chopping, channeling, sectioning, and recontouring with Reynolds aluminum panels. The hammer-welded frontal area, fully belly pan, and Speed Sport wire wheels reduce wind resistance. Attractive finish is pure Swedish pearl, two-toned with translucent Kandy Tangerine. Thirty coats achieve bottomless depth. The rear-mounted Cadillac Eldorado mill develops 500 horsepower with aid of Hilborn injection, 671 GMC supercharger, Weiland drive, Hunt magneto, Autolite electrical system, Ansen stroker kit, Isky cam, Mickey Thompson Accessories, and Dupree fuel pump. In-out box transmits power to Halibrand rear.
Driver safety is insured by tube frame, unitized roll bars and seat belt with shoulder harness. For show purposes, undercarriage and engine of the functional compe***ion coupe have been bathed in chrome plating, while the interior has been covered with extruded aluminum. The XM:SC 210 Coupe proves a major step into the compe***ion field for customizer Barris.

Hmmm, never noticed the Willy's g***er in MAG before. It looks like it could be the same one from Hot Rod: Rebel of the Road.

Thanks, I can still remember ( I think) Maynard G Krebbs in the engine bay trying to make engine noises for the safety inspector, coz Zelda Gilroy had taken her motor back. I better find this episode and give it another look see -memory is going.

Lumpy's 40 Ford vert what color was it? In some pics it looks black in others it looks like a dull red, sort of a primer red.

In an episode of The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriett, David had gotten a speeding ticket that he was goiing to pay, and as he is leaving, Ozzie looked out the window and we see a pristine looking 40 Ford coupe with dummy spots and lakes pipes (alot better car than any other cars on any of the other shoows mentioned here. i have been looking all over trying to find more pics of it, do any of y'all here know where I can find it? have any of you seen it?

In real life Frank Bank aka "Lumpy" had a bad *** high HP 4 speed Corvette. Frank Drag raced it all the time.

Going from memory, I was thinking David had a '40 Mercury, but I am going way back so I might be mistaken

Here's a color shot of Wally's car from a movie it appeared in, Tammy and the Doctor from 1963:

I posted under my 62Imperial nom de plume there when I recognized it. In that movie it was "owned" by Peter Fonda. Looks like it was pale green.

It's OT, I know, but Greg Brady also had a one-of-none 72 'Cuda convertible.

In a discussion of this thread with a friend last night, he seems to remember an episode in which the "boys" were preparing to paint the '40 in a PURPLE tone. DD

I used to watch the show all the time and distinctly recall dialoge in one of the episode's that the car was purple or lavender. The car is sans outside door handles. I believe the upholstery was custom?
The episode of the kids chaining the car's rear axle and ripping it out was stolen for the cop car scene in American Grafitti.
Always wondered what became of the car. Totally lost and sitting in a Socal garage somewhere? More likely a modern day Street Rod that looks nothing like the original car.

Johnny Crawford form the Rifleman series was a car guy too. He had a 30ish Chrysler roadster he drove around a lot.

Didn't the really older son (older than Robby) but written out of the show and replaced by the orphan neighbor (the younger Livingstone brother) drive a mid 30's something that had the top cut off to make it into a convert? It also had a floor mounted stick shift that had an extended shift knob that stuck up about face level.

Looked it up on IMDb - Tim Considine was the older son Mike, who was written out of the show and later replaced by Barry Livingstone's younger brother, Stanley. He was referred to as an orphan who had no home and therefore was going to live with the family and later on turned out to have the last name of the family, although, it was never written in (at least, not to my knowledge) as to when they adopted him.
Ok, is everyone straightened out now? Good, because my my brain is smoking from too much use!

Not Quite. Stanley Livingston was the older brother. Barry was who, in essence, replaced Tim Considine.
