I have a 61 pontiac and trying to replace rear door gl***. Tried prying and pulling off the door handle and window crank off door panel. Won't come off. Any other way to get it off. Looks straight and simple.

There is a little spring clip that you need to remove. You might be able to snag it with a needle nose pliers and pull it off. Then the handle just slides off.

The handle will have a clip at the center, make a small hook from a piece of coat hanger or any stiff wire. Hook the tool onto the clip and pull it out.

Red shop towel drug behind the crank base works sometimes. You have to get between the plastic washer and the crank? If using a hook watch out if you slip you can mess up a good door pad. Don't ask me how I know..!!!!!!

Don't lose those clips! As hotrodprimer hinted, the new replacement clips ****. They are not quite the same shape as the originals and consequently are harder to work with.

Thanks for the hook idea, Checkerwagon. I've got one interior door handle I can't get off (upholsterer did something screwy, my tool won't catch the clip no matter how hard I try) but I think with a small wire hook I should be able to get to the clip.

a putty knife pushed behind there will work also. the clips are usually snapped in from the far side, towards the crank so get the knife under the handle.
