Sorry for the O/T thread...family in West called to tell us there was a m***ive explosion and fire in town (just N. of Waco). Town is torn up pretty bad & people are being evacuated. Hope any HAMB friends in the area are ok. Prayers sent.

hope'n so....met a nice Studebaker guy there the last time I called on our customer's store....thier stores okay - it's a block from the football stadium....prayers going out...
Possibly 60-70 dead, including a LEO and 5 firefighters, and hundreds injured. Looks pretty bad. Hope they can get it under control sooner than later.
To some degree, yes. The firefighters, paramedics and police put themselves in harms way to help others. That makes it just a little more upsetting when they lose their lives. I do understand though, a life is a life. Thoughts with all involved. Peter ****er Senior Station Officer Country Fire Authority Vic. Australia Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Recently updated news reports are saying 5-15 dead, 60-70 houses destroyed and hundreds injured... Thoughts go out to Texas
Kinda spooky, drove through there about 30 minutes before it happened (DFW to Austin). Prayers to all affected.
Any idea what set it off? We had a vitamin factory by me that exploded when dust in the air combusted. Killed a few on the 3rd shift, I recall large pieces of the brick building blown far away. Bob
I wasn't sure if he was commenting about my post or the OP post involving HAMBers. Even if those who lost their lives were not HAMBers, it still ****s. But yes, I agree. It seems to bear a heavier burden when those who selflessly put themselves into danger to rescue those in harms's way lose their lives. Yeah. I'm glad the figures are significantly lower than originally anticipated. Still, even if just a single life is lost, it bears a burden. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
This has been a hell of a week for weird events, hasn't it ? I wish the best for the people affected in both of these disasters. Don
I am 75 miles north of there, and I was in the house when it happened. It shook the house and sounded like a big clap of thunder. Everyone was out looking around trying to figure out what just happened. I can't imagine being anywhere close to that. It reminded me of the day the space shuttle blew up.
Who the people are/were doesn't matter...there's plenty of loss & suffering to go around - prayers for everyone affected. Waco area HAMBers, please let us know how we can help!
Water on an ammonium nitrate fire is supposedly what set the explosion off. Truly a shame what happened. There is a place not 300 feet away along the frontage road there that has the best kolaches anywhere. Nice folks that own the place. Hope they and folks around them are OK.
Praying for the good people of West, Tx...may God Bless the victims and families. The chzech stop in West is the spot yall are thinking of. Every hot rodder I know frequent that little spot anytime we p*** through .
that sounds odd to me. adding H20 to NH4NO3 yields a reaction that creates coldness. That is exactly what they use in cold packs. I would speculate that the blaze created enough heat (approx. 350 degrees) to cause an explosion.
Sad to see the news of the explosion in West. Went to college in Waco and met a lot of people from West and surrounding communities. Wish them all the best. My thoughts and prayers are with them.
