Drop axle question

    A buddy of mine that runs a hot rod shop told me he has a friend with a jig that presses model a axles in to drop axles, any one ever heard of this? Pros cons?

    Thats how real dropped axles are made...put it in the jig, heat with a torch, then stretch the end.

    Safer than an aftermarket cast axle.

    And as long as you don't quench it or anything after - just let it cool down slowly in still air or buried in sand.

    Youtube.... Its safe but if done wrong it will never track right or if you heat it up too much you can stretch the king pin hole....

    They have been making dropped axles that way for more than 50 years. It has proven to be a safe and effective way to lower an early Ford.

    Your friend may have been speaking of my axle fixture, I can do up to a 4 inch drop for you....Jack
