I have a question that I am sure has been answered I just can not find it. I am leaning towards a 3-4 drop from sids as that sounds like the correct way to do it. I want to run a bias tire as I will only be driving around town and maybe 1 100 mile trip a year. I was planing a running a 15x8 steel wheel and was wondering what size tire I can safely run? also any push in favor of the 3-4 in drop would help me a bit also. Thanks and sorry if these have already been answered.
What size tire as in short? or what size tire as in Tall? If you are running 15x8 rims probably a G or H series Bias tire. Some guys like the L series tires but to me those are too damned big and start looking like cartoon tires on the front of an AD truck along with defeating the purpose of the dropped axle. The taller tire is ok on the back if you want a rubber rake on it though. Maybe the best thing is to borrow a pair of roller tires and wheels the right height to put on the front for a stand back and look and see thing if one of your buddies has a pair the right size bias or radial to try.
I think the 8" wide rims are going to give you trouble on the front after you install the axle. I have a 3" Sid's axle and stock 15" truck rims and barely clear the fender wells on the outside while turning sharp, and the tie rod ends on the inside. Do a search for "scrub line" and then do some measuring under your rig. A 4" axle is going to be mighty close to being illegal in some states, and could be flirting with disaster in case of a front blowout.
I'm running a 7.50 10ply on an original 16x4" rim with Sid's 4" axle and two leaves removed. I only rub a little when I have the wheel turned full to lock.
Thanks for in info guys. I am limited in wy as far as using any sort of mock tire. 7 inch wide in the front with a 3 inch drop axle you guys think be best?
I am going to run a 650/16 on a stock wheel ( the size is like 27 tall by 6.5 wide) stock the truck came with a 600/16
