I have a set of what is suppose to be split bones from a 35-35 Ford. I originally installed them with the welded seam on the bottom as I thought it should be. By installing it that way it tilts the axle forward. I took them off and put the seamed side up and it's perfect. Is that right or did i do something wrong. I can post pics on Monday.
Should be?? Really if that's the case I'm good. Thank you It's been making me crazy thinking I had something wrong
The welded seam is down. Typically you have to make a 'piecut' up where the forged yoke section is **** welded to the tubing. The forged section has a shoulder that goes up inside the tube about 3/8ths or so. I make my cut right at that edge. I made a simple fixture that bolts up inside the front crossmember (replacing the spring) and aligns the axle to the crossmember as the front crossmember has the 5-7deg castor angle built into it, i then attach the bones to the axle and attach the other end at the frame and do some tack welds. I do both sides and take them back apart, lay them on top of each other and they should match. If they do, weld'em up.
i guess you can have it anyway that works for you.....but Ford had them with the welded seam up when 35/36 fords left the factory
i just looked at my `36 and the seam is up , do A's and 32-34 have the seam down from the factory? i just never paid any attention
"Seams" to me we have a real difference of opinion on this one! I'm betting a lot of them have had the seam "reversed" at some point for looks.
actually , we "seam" to all agree now......A , 32-34 is down, 35 and up is up learn something new every day , never paid attention
Thanks for all the help. Problem solved. I was hoping 35-35 seams were up otherwise I screwed up somewhere
You didn't screw up.... And before making any pie cuts, check the caster angle. It may be ok as is. 4TTRUK
