Well I just missed a great buy on a 32 three window and was wondering how many other HAMERS have had the fickel finger of fate come down on them like this story as follows. Back on Feb. 24th I received a note from who I won't say his name here on the HAMB asking me if I was open to buying a deuce 3 window. He was dealing with this guy in Fl. on some HEMI motors and he had this 3 window for sale also. DAM BET I AM......So we sent PM's back and forth since Feb. and last Thursday he sent me one that gave me the owners name and number, at last. I call him with-in the hour and he told me it was a great deuce 3 window with firewall, dash. garnish mouldings, deck lid, but the frame was not the orignal as it had a crome mollie tube frame but the body was 100% rust free...ORIGNAL Now to tell you that I was not pumped up by now would be the understatement of the year......Then he tells me he HAD SOLD IT 2 DAYS AGO!!!! and I had been trying to get hooked up with this guy for 2.5 months....... GET THIS........He sold it for 9 GRAND!!!! Well I felt that I had just been hit by some big *** truck & eye balls looked like 2 piss holes in a snow bank.. Two days I missed a steel 1932 3 window,,,,,For 9K THAT ****S!!!!
Yeah that does ****! Been there done that as I'm sure others here have too! Day late dollar short story of my life!
<<<<<<<<<<<<< I called on this two man INDY car every month for about a year way back about 25 years ago. Missed one month, and found out it sold for $10,000 with out the engine. Then that year at Hershey a friend told me about an "Offy" he spotted on the other side of the field. He asked me several times during the day if I went to see it. Finally got pissed enough to drag me over to look at it, only to see the spot of gr*** it had sat on...............Turned out to be THE ENGINE out of that car!. It got reunited and the car is restored and running now. Bob
G'day all, I was 14 back in 70. The Chevy dealer had just gotten in a used 2 top 65 Corvette. Yeah, it was red. For $1500 I was going to own my first car and it was going to be a Vette. We were almost done and Dad decided he better call the insurance man to make sure we could insure the car. Well, the insurance man said no way in hell. First car became the dealer's Corvair. It still stings. ms
i had an O/T vehicle (highly desireable musclecar) bought but was making payments to the owner who had owned it for like 10 years said NO WORRIES its not going anywhere its yours i made a couple of on time payments then i went to make the next one and he goes sorry heres your money back that guy standing over there just bought it.......
It took two months to get the owners info ? Maybe dude just got tired of being bothered. My dad was getting pestered about selling a possession, after about a year that guy told another guy and he's getting double pestered. He told both of them he sold it and he made up a price so they would get wild eyed look like two piss holes in the snow. It's still in the safe.
A buddy called me to tell me about a craigslist ad for a 34' Ford pickup for $2400 that came with many extra parts. I called and he said that someone was coming back later in the day to pick it up but no $$$$ had changed hands. I asked if I could look at it and within a 1/2 hr I was looking at a survivor chopped 34' pickup with a 283" 4 spd. He had a good flathead that he was building for it with boxes of speed parts that went with it. Needless to say I had the $$$$ but he wouldn't except it as the previous guy gave his word that he'd be by later that evening to buy it
I feel for ya. I missed out on a '32 3W coupe in the mid '80s that was listed in the Auto Swapper...for $4,000!!! This was an unbelievable price, even back then. I did go to see it. The interior was gutted, it had surface rust over the entire body and had a good sized dent in the roof, but it was original, complete, and very solid...and very sold...and I was very sad.
I tried for years to buy a very nice 57 chevy 210 hardtop, that was sitting in a garage since 1964. I made several very good offers on the car, and was always told it is not for sale. I talked to a guy the other day who just bought the car and swears to me that he paid $2,000 for it, my offer was about $10,000 more than that.
In 1995 I was at a garage sale and a guy had a 1949 Chevy sedan delivery. He said some guy offered him $50 for it. He said he would sell it for $100. I told him that I would buy it for $100, so I bought it. I had 3 cars I was working on at the time and really didn't want it but hey for $100.00 why not. I was working nights at the time and told a guy I just bought a sedan delivery and told him the year and he told me he would give me $2500 for it! SOLD IT!
In 2004 ... I had a Henry steel 32 3W ... bought over the phone. I had seen the coupe many times in person. We agreed on the price and everyone was happy. I could not pick the coupe up for 2 weeks ( coupe was 500 miles away ) so I offered the guy a sizeable deposit. I had been chasing the coupe for a few years and he said ... no need ... I know you will be back. So I sold my 40 Ford standard coupe ... to make room for the 3W and also made it easier to pay the 3W price. I went 1 week earlier than agreed ... and the man told me he sold it. The coupe was still there BUT sold. But ... everything worked out ... because I bought this coupe 3 weeks later. It is a vastly better coupe for only slightly more $$$ The first seller actually did me a favor ... and I got a better coupe.
So I know it's not a 32 but five years ago I was on the hunt for a 66 Gto for my brother in law!!! Long story short we found one right under our noses!!! Been sitting for a few years!!! I ca ll my brother and he say stop in check it out... If its good buy it I trust you!!! So I pull in to buy the car and the guy says come back in two hours the owner should be here!! I go back to find out the owner is there in the middle of selling it to my buddy billy ( who I hadn't seen in like three years) and was also the guy who got me into collision repair!!!! Billy walks over to me says he needs the car to make two correct cars.. He has a 67 with a 66 front clip on it and this was a 66 with a 67 front clip on it!! So I was like ****!!! Billy walks over to me and says if its for me and I really want it he'll back of and I can have it!!! I said nope it's for my brother in law??. He laughed and said... Well... **** him!!! Sorry jojoe!!! He neede it more then my brother in law!!!
also i found a 60 impala hardtop it was rough no engine /trans went into the garage where it was parked and guy said his friend just drug it out and was going to restore it so NOT FOR SALE the next week it wasnt there so i figured the guy was going to actually do some work to it a week later i went walking into a junkyard and walked right up to the same 60 impala its still sitting there i think it been 20 years now ..... had the same senerio happen with another desirable musclecar as with the impala
BOY! I hope I can be that lucky.....Just to find another 3 window for sale and owner not wanting to retire with his asking price is very hard to do these days as you know. Can't be that many left out there. I sure like the looks of yours.
I had recently sold my 5 window coupe and I missed a nice 32 roadster. I thought my name was gonna be on the ***le but after his wife said no,,I didn't hold him to the deal. HRP
I bought a piece of shop equipment from a guy last year who said he would hold it for me until I could get there on my lunch hour (50 mile drive and an extra hour for lunch that day) There was a guy sitting in his yard waiting for me not to show up so he could buy the equipment who was upset because I showed up on time with cash in hand. I have a lot of respect for the guy who held to his word and held the equipment for me. On the other side of the coin I have a buddy who was in the habit of making deals for old cars and then not paying for them but saying that he owned them. That was until we were driving down the road one day and saw one he had been claiming to own headed down the highway on a trailer because he had never gone back and paid for it and picked it up and the owner got tired of waiting and had a cash in hand offer. I told him, you don't own it until you pay for it and take it home.
Not the case with this one. The guy I was working with is a HAMB member and was great about sending me messages almost weekly about his statis on going to Fla. & take photos, but his business was swamped and he could,nt get away. That is when he sent me the owners name & phone number.
In '76 in Tulsa, a guy had a '56 Nomad for sale ($800) parked in the Casa Bonita parking lot. I called the number on the for sale sign and told the guy I would be there as quick as I could with $800. I went to the bank and withdrew the money, drove to the lot just in time to see another guy (with a gold chain around his neck, seriously) writing a check! Win some, lose some!
