Like the title says, I just found this car on Craigslist last week and made the 3 hour ride each way to go get it. The guy I bought it from is a HAMB member, he told me it was on the streets of Savannah in the '50's-'60's era as a custom hot rod owned by a guy named "Animal". He said a friend turned him onto the car and that it was sitting in the bed of a late '30's dump truck when he found it. Its super rough, but I'd like to find some history on it, as I have the crazy idea to rebuild it to its former glory. The guy I bought from said he heard it ran a nailhead motor and that "Animal" has since passed away. There is some custom sheetmetal work done on the interior and remnants of old blue paint on the exterior that might help identify it. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give. Here are a few pictures:
Oh WOW. Is there any panel that won't need a half dozen patches? That's almost as bad as my current T project.
Wow is right, but I bet she was a sweet little ride back in the day! There are a lot of little things done to her. I agree though, she is very rough! Did you get any other parts or a frame? I bet she'd have some stories to tell! I hope someone recognizes the car & can help you get her history! Congrats on your find & good luck on the build!
Thanks for all the comments so far guys! I really hope to get some info and Especially some old pics of it. If I decide to go through with the build I will deffinetly keep you all posted, I'll probably start a build thread. Right now I have several project s in line ahead of it , but I may still tinker on it along the way. We are currently building my dads '30 model A pickup that we extended the cab on, and my wife's A-truck is next, which will be followed by my '27 T-coupe, and then this roadster if I can get the old info. But who knows, I may sell or trade it off. I am however already building it in my head and that usually ends up as a project once that happens!
Sounds like you and your dad have a bunch of cool projects lined up. Nice find and until you can get to it, I'd keep it under cover so rust doesn't set in.
I hope you're able to find it's history in order to put it back to its former glory, but even if you don't find out what it was like originally, it would make a great build -- I love when an old hotrod gets brought back from the dead!
I will pm you someones number that may know about the car. I met John "Animal" a few times as a kid. He had a shop in Savannah and messed around with all kinds of stuff. Sadly, most of the guys that would remember this car have passed, but I'll try to help you out.
