I might have the chance to get my hands on a 348 engine. Would like to know what a fair price would be for this engine. Thanks for the help

Is it painted and nice looking and complete carb to pan? Grungy original? Rebuilt? In a car that hasn't been run for 20 years?

Sounds like a buildable core. On a good day, they're worth about 1/2 what 409s bring.
Without seeing the engine, I'd guess between $500.00 and $1000.00.

Just paid $250 for one from a junkyard---caked with grease-complete from carb to pan. Carb was shot but not one bolt gave me trouble coming apart--probably due to the grease and oil caked on. All standard and still a nice hatch on the bores. Couple of rusty/pocked valves but the heads are clean. I was advised to avoid the 58's as the heads have less cooling around the plug areas but I am no expert on these.

Early 58 version without plug cooling is not so good.
Early truck version with double notches is not so good.
Everything else is good to go. $200-700 is a nice price range.
