I am a student of metal work myself.
I am impressed with Bluto's work, but suspicious as well.
Who is this guy? Millionaire hobnobbing with peasants?

Seems to me.....the cartoon Bluto character looks a lot like......

    hahahaha!

but i doubt it. too many people on here have met him. i would hope somebody would have said something.

however, some people are real followers.

ive seen the posts. "hey bluto, ill give you a call and stop by this weekend? ok buddy? i love you bluto? is that ok?"

if a car is worth 2.5 million, someone on here should be able to recognize it, id think.

Wow!! This thread is almost my idea of a perfect thread:

    1) Guys trying to out compete each other with the level of their metal working skills

    2) Lots of good tech stuff that is educating me about metal work

    3) Trash talking and name callin'

It's a frekin hat trick of a thread!! I love the HAMB!!

Bluto PM'd me, and said several things, which is summarized by this quote, which comes from his PM:

"I'm not going to respond to this anymore end of story I explained myself as much as I like."

i wonder how many guys DO know who he is, but are keeping their traps shut? especially considering where his shop is located, at least one of his neighbors being someone many Hambers seem to worship.

yeah, i noticed bluto's stuff wasn't cheap, but neither are cars at Barrett Jackson, but i don't go around telling the sellers "you got too much for that car, oh and you're an asshole!"

the way i see it, even IF bluto does happen to be a rich asshole, he's a rich asshole that was just giving away flathead motors!:D can't complain about that.

It started out "who wants" which makes them sound free......and from what I see ended up :

"OK I talked to a bunch of folks about value........

The 59AB is $575 and The 59L is $750 remember these are stock bore the L has heads headers water pumps and clutch

Bores look very good as do the valves

If either of these blocks are cracked I'll give you your money back These are not ''JUNK CORES''

BUT you gotta pick em up "

After all, even a multi-millionaire can't afford to be too philanthropical and help out the less fortunate giving stuff away, let alone selling stuff reasonably.

Are you shittin' me ? 750.00 for a rusted up short block ? I've had more than one HAMB'er offer me good running, "can come hear it run" flatheads for that or less.

I'm not making any accusations but I've seen situations where a guy has access to some "accomplished" persons stories and stash and gets on the Net and inserts himself as that person. People who attain such levels in areas we are expected to believe generally have better grammar and typing skills.

WEll I should not even comment on this. Because its not about metal working any more.

I have met Bluto and went to his shop. He has Alot of cool stuff. I know his items are not always cheap. But I don't think anyone gave him everything he has either.

I know what its like for me. I get my ass up at 3 and 4 in the morning. Use most of my vacation time at swap meets and chasing down parts. . Why should I give them away. I don't buy junk. I don't think Bluto does either.

He has alot of great tools. I think it is great that he can be a good mechanic and still do some nice metal forming also.

I assure you this. If you saw him walking around a swap meet.. He would look just like your grandpa. Digging through boxes of parts and finding treasures.

I think Bluto is very nice and knowledgeable. He is also willing to sit down and share his knowledge..

So I don't care how much money he has. I think he is not bragging about it. Just proving a point that he was not an idiot and sitting at his computer talking shit.

I think if you can build a car to Museum quality and sell it for 2.5 million. that is a pretty big accomplishment..

I know that is he is not bull shitting about selling the car either. I know who bought it... and they had to BEG to get it..

Thats all from me. I am going to go back and practice banging some metal now

What in the hell turns a metalshaping post into bashing someone because of the amount of $ he is perceived to have.

What the fuck has that got to do with the subject?

    MY 2 cents.

lets not begrudge bluto for making money, it doesn`t make any sense. i got riled up because bluto said something about there being no metalshapers teaching, basically there just out to make a buck (go on www.metalmeet.com or www.allshops.org and you`ll se there`s lots of talented people out there teaching metalshaping )he also said how little he`s impressed with covell and tinman which is fine to have your opinion and to express it, but if you don`t qualify a statement like that with your reasoning you look very condesending. after a few p.m.`s with bluto i`ve come to the conclusion that bluto`s not a bad guy he just says what he thinks but doesn`t say enough so the rest of us know where he`s coming from.
i hope we can get back to discussing metalshaping and stop the rest of this nonsense.

Seems like a little jealosy. Most of us can't shape at that level, so some people want to bash the people who can. Doesn't seem real fair to Bluto. He's got skills. Nuff said.
