Fan Spacer question

I need to get my fan ( engine mounted ) closer to
my radiator.
Can I use a 5 1/2 inch spacer without it breaking?

 

I wouldn't try it.

 

If you can't find a factory installed one of that length then is likely too long. Is there an option to put in a longer "nosed" water pump then a shorter spacer. Maybe split the difference, maybe give engine type and size and some one may have a suggestion.

 

why can't you make a shroud?

 

X2 on the shroud. My big block Mopar is way back from the radiator so I made a shroud and it never runs too hot

 

I once drove an O/T corvette with a 4-5 inch fan spacer installed by previous owner. At about 6500 RPMs. it snapped the water pump shaft and sent my fan into the radiator..$pensive lesson.

Use both a spacer and a shroud. Check out the shroud on a 60-70s Monte Carlo.

 

why is the radiator so far from the fan that you need a 5" spacer?

 

Same question why the need for? Tommy that shroud looks like half of a 55gal drum 70 monte I have to look into that never saw one.

 

Monte Carlo's and early 60s buicks had very long fan spacers in that 5 inch range and seemed to work, still would make me nervous though.

 

i once tried two spacers. (i was young) yep snapped the water pump shaft and destroyed my radiator.
