I have a '55 chevy truck with a 235 in it. the motor was stuck when I bought it. Don't know if its worth the trouble, or just junk it and drop in a sbc and be done with it. I tried removig the distrbutor last night and it wont come out. I wanted to try and get some oil pressure using an old screw driver on a drill motor. Any help would be great.
A 235 is always worth a shot. But you are going to have to crack into it to get it turning. To just get the distributor to turn, give it a few days of PB blaster. Even the inside. Use the whole can. Then torch the block around where the dist. goes in. Not too hot. Give it a few easy taps UP, and a few easy taps DOWN. try the vice grips on the shaft -a few more taps. If it moves at all... more PB. You'll get it. If not, you're lookin at too much work and a peek under the head will prove that all you need is a chain for that anchor.
I've worked several stuck distributors out of high mileage motors. The key is to get them to move (twist). Then it's just lots of patience & PB Blaster (Or a similar product). While twisting it back and forth, work on alternating between pulling up on it and pushing it back down and keep repeating until it comes out. They can be pretty stubborn but it WILL come out. The other thing is, if that motor is stuck, getting oil pressure ain't gonna free it. I think you're gonna find that it's the rings/pistons that are frozen to the cylinders. There are lots of threads on here about freeing up stuck motors with lubricants and time. Like Aerotrat says, you might just be ahead of the game pulling the head to see what you're up against. Nice looking truck by the way!
Thanks to everyone. It might be worth saving. It's a 1st series '55 still with the 6v system. I guess I need to stock up on more PB Blaster(this stuff is great).
