Every organized event that I have been involved with starts out on a town level and progresses to the county, state, region, etc to a NATIONAL event. Why does NSRA have East Coast Nationals, Mid West Nationals, Nationals North, NO, these events are REGIONALS, not NATIONALS. There can be only ONE Nationals. The purpose of a NATIONAL event is for everybody across the country to gather in one area for one big hot rod show. I have asked several NSRA "Blue Shirts" this question and they look at me with this blank stare and say "your right, but we don't know the answer"! Any ideas.
I believe it is because the same critical thinking was used that allows a 1983 K Car to register for their "Street Rod" events. It must be about the money. Isn't it always about the money? They probably think more people will sign up for a National but not a Regional.
Marketing 101 - Placing the word "National" in the ***le will attract more vendors and participants for the very reason stated by Graystoke. In the beginning there was only one annual National event and many participants liked the idea of a local "Regional event" they could call their own and not have to travel so far. For example, if you live in LA and the National event is in Louisville you are more apt to p*** and wait for the local Regional event. The word "National" does not mean the same to the promoters as it does to us. The word simply describes the event as they deemed necessary when establishing the promotional aspect to the advertisers. I would not judge an event by the ***le but by the good times you had while attending. Promoters work hard at keeping the gate and participants revenue in line with expenses and still provide a quality show. Semantics are not important but a change in the name may be. My 2 cents!
it was a silly question the first time as well. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=793035
I like the Western Nationals in Pleasanton... but that is Goodguys. maybe I'll start a thread on Goodguys and thier Nationals.
Promoters have been hyping events for 100+ years with frivilous and exaggerated names. How can a World champion in football be determined in the super bowl, when only one nation plays? Looking at it another way, some racing organizations, especially big ones, have National races all over the country. The call them that because "national" points are awarded. Anyone can compete, from national touring teams, to divisional racers from their respective divisions. Some sanctioning bodies even require regional guys to race out of their division several times a year so they can see how everyone stacks up and keep the national championship events rated equally. In the case of car groups, a national show or race probably just means the compe***ion is open to anyone (in the nation, or even beyond borders). Gary
I like ****ies and cookies! I can't understand why you ask the same question again after the first was closed,,this one will be too! HRP
It's really not worth ******* and moaning about. I think back in the 70's it was because what were pretty much regional events like the Lone Star Nationals in Waco were actually trying to draw guys from all over the country who would drive some distance to an event rather than the guys who thought 400 miles was an unreal distance. The first event my 48 ever went to was the Street Rod Nationals in Tulsa in 1973 which was a 409 mile one way trip for me (McGregor Tx to Tulsa Via Oklahoma City). There we met folks who had come from all over the US and Canada and later when we helped with the Lone Star run in Waco we met people who had driven long distances to get there. That made it a National caliber event rather than a regional event. I haven't been to a NSRA event since they opened it up to the cars that belong in the parking lot and probably won't make one any time soon. It's bad enough to go to the local big event and see a car that is a dead ringer for my grandfather's old 71 Dodge Polara 4 door sedan right down to the exact color of exterior and interior.
I would rather see an event called Nationals than something derogatory like 'PILEUP' or 'RUMBLE'...Why do certain car show names have to sound derogatory?
Saw a tee shirt hat a guy was wearing at the local, not regional or national cruise in , that said ' Tell your ****ies to quit staring at my eyes'
