Show your gauges Chevy guys. 49-54 dash shots

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Roothawg, Oct 13, 2006.

  1. Hey, there's a guy in Sierra Vista with a green '51 or '52 Chevy 2 door & he modified his center grill so it drops down & the stereo is behind it. Talk about a real nice set up. (don't worry it's not a secret, he had it displayed that way at a car show and that is how I learned about that being done):D

Saoutlawsgotti, yes you can only run three gauges in the stock housing, unless you stagger them like some of the aftermarket housings do. Personally, I like them in a straight line, so I just put the ammeter below the dash, since it's not something I look at that often anyway.

Here's mine. I got an aluminum piece off of ebay that had all the holes cut and was ready to go. It is a little smaller than the stock piece, but it works. I was also going to try and hide my CD player behind the speaker grille but I don't have a welder and even if I did I can't weld (wish I could though). Anyway I am thinking of mounting it under the dash and hiding it behind a vintage tissue dispenser now.

Here's mine, pretty simple, suede dash with a Tach.

Here is the one I did for mine last summer. The engine turned panels they sell have 1/2" circles. I wanted smaller ones so I made my own out of stainless and did it in 3/8" circles. The pic doesn't pop as much as seeing it in person. I picked up another piece of stainless this week to do the lower portion of the dash to match.

Thought I'd bump an ancient thread for any more pics or advice? All of my gauges are toast.
