  1. "The Grand Tour" what a song. Long hard life sprinkled with brilliance and glory.

    So long.

It does get overwhelming to live in a time when so many great stars shine and in a time when so many twinkle and go out. I have to say though, that few shone as brightly as George Jones. RIP, and thank you.

"He Stopped Loving Her Today" has to be one of the saddest C/W songs ever recorded. Today is one one of the saddest days in C/W music.

  6. I have never cared much for country music but I heard "He Stopped Loving Her Today" on the radio once while traveling and thought that was the saddest and most beautiful song that really gets to you. It is probably the best country song ever written and still gets to me. And only George could sing it.
    Sad news.

  7. Wow! I saw him at the Lakeside rodeo grounds in the early 80's He was drunk as a skunk!!
    RIP George

  9. In 2000, my older son and I delivered a trailer and a '40 Ford Deluxe sedan to a buddy in Virginia. We made a fun road trip out of it, stopping at the various NA$CAR tracks along the way and such, among other things. While on the way back to OK, we stopped in Nashville, as neither of us had ever been there. On a whim, I decided we were going to the Grand Ol' Opry, since I didn't have a trailer behind me anymore. We had terrific balcony seats, and George Jones was one of several performers that evening. I've listened to country music for years, and was an on-air DJ at a country station in the late '70s; but never considered myself a "fan", per se, up to that time. But seeing George Jones on stage at that moment was such a thrill to see and hear!!! So talented and such stage presence! So cool.

    RIP.

I'm a southern California kid, so listening to George Jones wasn't likely or heard of. My buddies dad educated us on real music, music with heart, problems, actual living the life your singing, not some bullshit or fake hip hop life. This man got a DUI driving his john deer tracker to the liquor to buy more beer, that's real living if you ask me. I had a chance to shake hands with Mr jones at a state line concert in neveda at primm casino it was a honor. My buddies and I would call into work and call it GJ all day where you would listen to george jones all day and figure out the consequences later and learned the good year for the roses and the RACE WILL ALWAYS LIVE ON.

Crap! Just another kick in the balls for every fan of country music. I'll be listening to George's music until the day they shovel the dirt in on me. A very very sad day...

Rest in peace George. You may be gone, but you won't be forgotten. It is indeed a sad, sad day for us country fans.

All us guys in Texas need to lift one for ol' George tonight. Better still if you're at a TRUE Texas beer joint, no smell good sports bar.
    What a loss.

    Bye George.
The made up stars of today just wont be known like, and how you are.

  19. I can keep this thread kinda traditional with this story:

My uncle from Muscle Shoals AL built a '39 Buick coupe back in the '80's. Somewhere George sees the car and proceeds to tell my uncle that he's gonna buy that Buick. My uncle proceeds to tell George that the Buick had actually belonged to my aunt's father originally, so it really wasn't for sale. George bought it.

  20. He could sing like nobody else could! "The Bradley Barn Sessions" rule!

Heard the news while at work today. He had a number 1 hit at least once every decade from the 50's thru 90's. A true legend who did it his way all the way.

  30. George wouldn't be crying over George dyin!

    We all gotta go sometime.

This guy did more living in one week than some of us will do in a lifetime.

So instead of getting all sappy, go pour a drink and start living :) pretty soon you'll be dead ( that goes for all of us)
