I Can't think of any upward-pointing orifices on land based creatures in nature. There is probably a reason why.

Is it necessary to use Tennis balls or are there other balls that are suitable?

Which leads to another question: were yellow Tennis balls available in the 50s/60s or do I have to stick with white balls to be traditional?

Interestingly there is also a great song about this:

Falcongeorge has it right! Red balls, not tennis balls. They had tennis balls back then, but most used rubber balls.

I looked for rubber balls off and on for a good while and eventually gave up trying to find the size I wanted. Handballs were too small. Tennis balls are easy to find. I tried getting the fuzz off and painting them red but that looked like doo doo.

Dad used the traditional red rubber balls & small chains in his dragster zoomies in the '60's. But I think I remember the same red rubber balls screwed to a piece of clear plexigl*** for the Hilborn stacks. He has pictures - I'll have to scan them.

I used "splash bombs" in my zoomies.

We use the other traditional method for capping the zoomies......

Yes - that is a great pic!

Somewhere Dad has a pic of me about 5 years old strapped in his rail on the return road after a run - they towed back with the front end in a sling, so it didn't matter what I did with the ****erfly.

I did that once - I saw them blow out, but it was too late. It's kinda funny with mine - some **** down into the pipe first and then get blasted out.

My brother was chasing those splash-bombs all over the staging lanes!
