So, for the last few days I have been rolling 3/4 of the way across the valley (and Phoenix Is a BIG place!) to do and photo-do***ent a stock crossmembered MustangII install into a a '52 Chevy, then driving that long distance back. Today was sort of short and I got done kinda early, but when I did, the mail was already here. And, what a mail call it was! No, not 'cause of the latest Smithsonian, not even the cable bill... There it was! It has to be! It is! My Alliance Tag! See, this thing is kinda special to me, 'cause last year when I finally joined, it was at LSRU. After very carefully and lovingly packing and bringing my new tag home, I proudly took it out and showed Miss Judy, who reacted with "What the hell that? How much you spend? What the hell wrong with you?!!"(You gotta do that one with your best fake Chinese accent to get the full effect) Needless to say I was a bit crushed with her complete lack of enthusiasm and set it on my desk where just weeks later it suddenly dissappeared... Hmnnnnnnnnnnn...... Silly female! I'm still holding out hope that it is just under papers or fell back along the wall, but that's another story. This year, this one stays right on the wall above the computer come hell or high water! The other big reason is that this year got the tag inside that explains the origin of the machine that punches it and how it fits into our collective history as hot rodders! Damn that's cool! An old machine that stamped out timing tags for the S.C.T.A.! You don't say!!! Also, at the bottom of the tag is a big red signature right next to "Thank You for everything"... No, Ryan, Thank you for the place play and the friendships I've made here, sir! Edit:Corrected the word "hear" in the last line to "here". I had to get back in here and correct this simple flaw of character on my part as pointed out by my dear friend and spelling nazi JOHN EVANS who called me expressly to alert me of this short coming....
A convincing Chinese accent...disgruntled woman...Big red sig. saying, "Thank you for everything?" Hot damn, we're in Julie Neumar Wong Foo country!
Na Mike, if you ever see me out in public just ask me to immitate Miss Judy... Many in Phoenix will chuckle at the thought, as many have heard.
Don't want to bust your bubble chip,,but I got the same thank you card,,and your suitability right,,Thanks goes to the Boss for supplying us with a place like the Hamb and for being members of the Alliance we get compensated when we buy parts,,win, win for us all! HRP
Na, I knew I wasn't special, (however, I guess that's the politically correct term!) But it was a kinda big deal 'cause last year I went over to the booth and just joined the alliance and Ryan handed me my wayward tag. I didn't get the little explaination card with it. A machine that might have punched the timing tags of say Bill Niekamp, or Mickey Thompson, or Isky or any of those guys now humbly punching out my made-up handle... Kinda heady!
Doesn't bug me at all! It's my business and home, now you know where to send anything you need louvered! Put it in a box, put it in the mail, get it back full of holes!
It still brings a huge smile to my face when I get my new tag in the mail and the card is hand signed.......Sometimes its the little things.
I keep my Alliance tags stuck in my old Oly beer wall art. I sell a lot of parts in the cl***ifieds and becoming an Alliance member is just one small way of showing my appreciation to Ryan for the use of his cl***ifieds.
A few years ago, shortly before Christmas, my wife sat me down and had me watch as she logged onto the Hamb. I said, "Hey...what the hell wrong with you?" She said, "Just watch." Okee dokee...I sat back and watched. She signed me up for my first Alliance Membership using her credit card. She turned around and said, "Merry Christmas Sweetheart." Congrats on your latest Alliance Membership, Chip. Gotta say that I didn't realize that the stamping machine Ryan uses to stamp Hamb tags was also used to stamp SCTA tags! Wow...that gives it a whole lot more meaning for sure. Thanks for mentioning that. It's a little tight around here lately, (to say the least) and I've lapsed for a while now. But I'll hopefully have red letters and a tag again before too very long.
I gotta say that I was just as impressed and excited to get my tag. I've hung both the tag and card in my garage....Thanks Ryan, and thank you to all the other members who see the value in becoming an alliance member
The vintage machine in all it's glory. One can only wonder how many tags and for whom they were punched? It's a great feeling to get your tag and know you are supporting something special
Got mine this week too and loved the old style card with explanation. Both are on my display shelf above my computer with other "treasures".
When I first became an Alliance member never got my HAMB tag, something screwed up but wasn't a big deal to me, just happy to be a very small part of the HAMB world. I don't need no stinkin badges, but I sure do like them!
