I searched everything I could thing of and could only find a few pics and mentions about it. I was looking for more pics and info on his red oxide, flamed shoebox and thought It was in a rod and custom young guns feature from years ago but I can't seem to find that issue in my un-organized stack either. I can relate to your screen name, because I was both young and poor when I built the shoebox. In fact, I pinstriped cars (or anything else I could) and painted flamed mailboxes to earn enough extra money to put it together, and I had a lot of help from my Dad. He and I painted a '65 Mustang in trade for the junkyard 350 I put in it. The project had already been started by our family friend Stan Devers. He did some of the hard work like installing the floor patch panels and mini-tubbing the body for bigger rear tires. I still have it....it's sitting in my home garage right now. I drove it all over the world from 2000 to about 2005. In 2004 I drove it to California and stayed there for a month. On the way back to Texas it kicked a rod out in Wagon Wheel, NM. I stayed with it on the side of the road and waited for my Dad to come pick me up with a trailer for nearly 12 hrs. That was one of the longest days of my life. When I got back I built another 350 for it, with Trickflow aluminum heads and an Offy 2x4 intake. It has a Muncie M-20 4 speed in it now too. I originally built it with a TH350, and then I broke 3 Saginaw 4 speeds before finally putting a Muncie in it. It's got a Mustang II front end, and a 10 bolt Chevrolet rear with 3.42 gears. I remember when Brian drove it out to the inagural HRR at Beech Bend, 2003 I think. Sammy Furlong and I had dinner with Brian and his dad. Brian probably doesn't remember. I think Sammy won the R&C Young Gun right after that. Rich
Thanks for the reply b***! I was mainly curious about your front end set up, as I've been on the lookout for another shoebox and thought this time (my second one) I'd put a sbc in it. It was a stub built by a guy that used to be in Dallas, and his shop was called Innovative Rod Shop. It's basically just like a Fat Man front clip. It uses all stock A-arms and strut rods. I had to extend one side of the manual rack just a little bit. I made the motor mounts myself.

Wow...never saw that car before! The under hood shot shows the cl***ic "b***" attention to detail. Cool car for sure. Are you ever gonna take a day off from the roadster to drive it again?
Love that car. I see so few coupes done... are they just more rare than sedans or what? The proportions are so much better IMO. The engine sure looks great too. The breathers are a cool touch, did those valve covers come off a dragster?

That is one slick shoebox that looks right out of a late1950's high school parking lot. Great photo of it running at Little River Blake, hope B*** had better brakes than I did the last time I ran there. I got stopped next to the gal selling tickets at the gate.
i remember talking with you one evening in Wendover. you were sittin' in the shoebox in front of one of the hotel/casinos. i don't even like shoebox fords, but i sure liked yours then and still do. i'm glad you still have it.
well, there ya go. i don't care much for tri-5 chevys either. or lead sleds. if we all liked the same thing wouldn't it be a dull boring world...

I have always dug this little car! It's sooooo good to see a '49-'51 that isn't chopped and dragging it's *** across the floor like a dog on carpet. Hot rods are where it's at, and have always been.
