From all I have heard the Y blocks are a poor fit.. Would like to stay FoMoCo, and I have to confess, I like cubic inches.
I put a 390 with a C6 in my 53 Business coupe. You need to make a box in the front cross member for the pan as well as your own mounts. ****** sits right on the stock ford mount but you need to drill 1 hole as the 53s are staggared. I used stock exhaust manifolds that worked great. I used 2/3 shift linkage hooked up to the C6. I used a 65 mustang rear with the 53 backing plates and drums.
If you can find a 70s F150 4x4 it has a rear sump pan that makes the job easy. I put a 57 MEL 430 in a 54 coupe.
Any reason A guy could not rework the pan and reroute the oil pump pickup to a rear sump? I'm thinking cut the flange off, rotate 180 and weld it back???
The first Y-blocks appeared in 54 in the same bodies as the previous flatties lived in. Shouldn't be a problem, should it?
I had a 390 & Cruise-O-Matic in my '55 F100. I didn't put it in there, but it fit like it was made for it. Whoops, thought you were asking for pee-cups. Ignore my ignorance! Sent using the NEW Droid HAMB app from atop my toilet.
As stated before use a truck rear sump oil pan . The last one I helped on was about 40 years ago. I also modified the drag link by droping the mid part and installed a remote oil filter.
