Hi all, Last summer I bought me a Model A Pickup. I bought her as a 1929, but maybe that's just the chassis or engine age as body/radiator/bumper/headlight bar looks more like 1930 I understand she was from Boiling Springs, South Carolina, so maybe someone on here recognises her? I've emailed SC DMV to try and get some history that might help with identification (not that I'll be changing her visually mind). Anyhow, I love her to bits and can't wait for the summer fun One of the early jobs we did on her was change her colour, in real life when she arrived she was a bluey/green that wasn't to our taste so satin black seemed the obvious easy solution. Mind you, now the paint's on and hard in the sun she looks to have a sheen/hint of brown : a happy accident. I'll confess straight up that I'm not the most mechanical of people so I'm very lucky to have a father-in-law that's not only got good taste but he's been restoring vintage motors for decades. He's done an incredible amount of work on the truck since we got her here to Yorkshire even though he's supposed to be retired and taking it easy. I've done what I can to help when asked or more realistically any crap jobs he didn't want to do (I was happy to do so), I still have a lot of dues to pay. She's on 17" wire wheels but in the pictures she's not wearing the ones I recently bought from Sledge here on this board. All lamps are back on her now but I'm leaving the door glass off (got different door mirrors on now). The fuel tank has been moved to under the bed, after trying to clean original tank wasn't too successful and no desire for entire disassembly. Anyhow, it's cool as the "new" tank is the first fuel tank built by the other half's dad almost 50 years ago so now she really is part of the family My original plan was maybe in time lower her and move to a v8. But now I'm thinking to leave her more or less as she is and maybe in time (not this year) use some 4-banger speed parts if I feel the need. A couple of weeks ago I had a happy weekend as friday night I watched Lawless and then saturday I had my first long run out in the truck, what a blast. Now we're waiting for radiator to be sorted as she was boiling some when we took her out, then the new wheels from Sledge will go on and all in time for festivals/camping
Could the cowl be from a slant windshield Tudor or Fordor that has been made into a pickup? Maybe the title in for a '29 but the body and radiator are '30. No matter, enjoy your ride.
charlieb66, I too wondered if it was a tudor/fordor body changed into a pickup and sat on a 29' chassis, especially as the bed is not original even in style. The windshield is slanted and she has Murray arches. cmyhtrod, 82-A had visors, but 82-B didn't. Or so I think, going by Mac's ID images. But then it could have been removed, especially given the weird roof material. Out of interest, what's the consensus here for stating a motor's year? Is it chassis, engine or body if they're not the same? There's no spare wheel hole in the left fender either, so another reason I'm leaning towards the body being from tudor/fordor. I await any info. from SC DMV with great interest.
Btw, I forgot to say I have proper headlamps on her now too, but they not the black backed truck ones.
" I await any info. from SC DMV with great interest. " Good luck with the SC DMV. I hope you already have a title with the vehicle.
I got a stock reply from SC DMV to fill in a form. I have what I think is a VIN (SCDMV000000XXXXXX) but am in middle of moving house so will wait until that is done before writing to them and to an address I have for an alleged previous owner.
