Hi fellow Hambers! I havent started any thread since my introduction so I guess this will be a more expanded introduction of me at the same time as I actually something to start a thread about Im a Ford-dude and I have had blue blood running thru my veins for a loooong time. Not that I dislike other brands, I build model cars and enjoy all American cars no matter what brand they are. But when it comes to fullsize/vintage tin my eyes go rolling whenever I see a Ford. My first vintage car was a 1972 Volvo 142 (relly cheap at the time in Sweden), a really good car to learn how to drive with. My second car was a 1962 Hillman Minx moredoor, not so fun but still vintage and cheap for the time. When my dad suddenly passed away when I was too young (17, I am now 39) I inherited some money and I always remember my pop say I really want to buy a Harley Davidson and do some nice cruising and my response to that was what, but you dont have a drivers license, what if the cops stop you?. He replied Ill just give them my finger, fuck them. That really stuck in my head and I bought a 1942 Harley (which I still own) and I drove it for almost two years without a drivers license. My friends thought I was nuts but I just said that if the cops would pull me over Id say fuck em. When they actually did that I was not that tough, so I paid my rather high ticket and shortly thereafter got my drivers license. I have been thru a bunch of different cars in life: 1968 Nova, 1953 Dodge, a bunch of older Volvos, Volvo based hot rod, 1952 Ford, 1964 Ford Galaxie Wagon, 1966 Chevrolet Suburban, 1929 Ford Model A roadster pick up and 1962 Ford Fairlane. Here's a bunch of pics how it looks now, I have owned it for almost two years and it is in the same condition/un-modified from when I made the trade. It's solid with no rust and is running quite good even if it has a 2-barrel carb. When I traded my 1966 Suburban for a this 1962 Fairlane my goal was already made up in my mind: Super Stock in some way. I have always liked the Tasca Fords and when I saw this pic (taken by Jack Bleil) in Charles R. Morris book (Total Performers Ford Drag Racing in the 1960s) I saw a imaginary third car, a white 1962 Fairlane C/FX. Small block powered "monster" (It's not a scan, just a pic of a pic.) My idea come from the "Challenger II", 406-powered Fairlane, but I don't want to make a clone of that, I want to go my own route (I also know that a clone of that specific car already exists). If I am correct by 1963 NHRA Stock Car rules a 289-powered Fairlane would compete in C/FX. If anybody could correct me or give me a better idea, that is welcome. I know there's a great bunch of Ford-guys on here and feel free to criticise/give advice since I might need every helping hand there is. I also have a confession to make: I have never worked with other than model cars. I don't have a garage where I can do stuff. I don't own much tools. I have made minor stuff to keep my cars running but I still have much to learn. I am open-minded, so please say whatever you want to put me in the right direction I know I will have tons of question to post in the future as this project is rolling. I don't expect to update very "often" since I might be slowed down by "mucho worko", which I need to do to just to raise funds for parts, labour etcetera. I will shortly post some more pics of what I have bought during the two years I have owned the car and how the progress goes. I hope you all will enjoy my journey as much as I will and again, feel free to say whaever you want. Also notice that I'm from Sweden, I will for sure mess up with the language here & there Thanks for looking! /Johnny
I owned one , identical in color and interior. The only change was a 260 and a C-4 auto. great car . It was a family car so I never did modify it further. I wish I had it back today. Good luck with your build and have fun along the way.
You did just fine with the language. In fact, much better than a lot of American born citizens. I too have been a Ford man since the late 50's when my Dad built our first Lincoln powered dragster (see my avitar). Good luck and come over and see us some time. Texas is a good place to start
@HRP: Just have patience, updates will come @snaptwo: Great to hear, feel free to post a pic of it in this thread. I'd love to see other Fairlanes as well! @Beep: Thank you very much sir, it means a lot. Texas is on my bucket list and whenever that will be I promise to send you a message. I really need to visit the Lone Star Roundup. I loooove the dragster in your avatar, so kool
So, what's happening right now? I have just got another engine to work on, another late 1965 Mustang 289 that I traded for Mustang model kits - I just love to trade stuff Here's what it looks like: Evrything is a bit dirty, the rust is only surface. It will soon be cleaned out to see how bad or good it is The stock intake won't be used, it will be cleaned/painted and put on the shelf. Oh, it still has the original Autolite spark plugs My "engine-man" happened to have a chrome oil pan that I could buy for a bargain price - hell yes The goal with this engine is about 300 HP, kinda mild but the main course for this build is still a street driven car. Thanks for looking! Johnny
@mustangmike6996: Yeah, that was my conclusion too - just great to keep it within a kinda "tight" budget and still keep it a street-driveable. @seadog: Kool Fairlane !! Really neat raduised rear fender @2dr_sedan: They will come, have patience It will probably be some time with the engine this week, I hope. Updates will come for sure!
I've seen this car at Mason's Hot Rods a few times so I suspect the guy is from South Carolina,,the car sounds great. HRP
