I just swapped in a banjo rear from a 47 into my 42. Wasn't till it was almost finished that I began wondering if I did a good thing. They aren't exactly the same, and I just can't wondering if maybe I should have just replaced the broken ring and pinion gears in the 42 rear. The turtle mounts differently, the brakes attach a little different, and finally there's zerk fittings for the axle bearings on the 42 axle. Even though most people will never know this, I will, and it's kinda bugging me. What do you think, fix the original or am I just being ****?

run the 47 axle and keep the 42 and rebuild it for a spare .

That was kinda my line of thinking too. It's a smooth turning rear. except for that one hard clunk where the broken gears meet, LOL And, I had just purchased a new set of gears for the speedo turtle.
