Does anyone know what I can do with my Model A banger to make it sound more healthy. I'm running a B cam and a 5.5 Hi compression head, a four into one header and a #94 carb on a downdraft manifold. Still sounds like a Model A.
That's the beauty of a banger....THE SOUND! Are you running mufflers at all? I'm thinking either shorty Porters or nothing, but I'm going to run a split header all the way back....it WILL sound different!
i have run streight pipes on my cars and they sounds cool like a tractor a bit though i though about cutting 2 model a mufflers in half(actually removing 1/3 of each) and welding them back together to make duels, but never tried ti make it happen yet tk
What about one of those slip on tractor mufflers sold at Tractor Supply? They are basically straight through, with a baffle type core in them. Start at 30 bucks each. I am putting Charlie Yapps headers on mine and was contemplating using them as duel mufflers.
i HAVE TRIED MANY DESIGNS: STRAIGHT THROUGH- LIKE A FART IN BATH TUB AT IDLE, VERY SMALL MUFFLER, HARLEY SLIP IN, SOME STEEL WOOL SHOVED DOWN THE PIPE HELD INPLACE WITH A HUNK OF COAT HANGER AND THE FINAL DESIGN ON 2 OF MY CARS- 18" CHEAPO GL*** PAK.
Muffler? who needs a muffler?? BTW, it looks very cool to see flames shooting out of these......... Whoda thunk a gramp's mod a would do that??
i ran the dual cast Y-type headers from Scalded Dog with the weld-in Harley mufflers and it sounded great. i will agree, it sounded a bit like a really mean tractor, but I liked it!
I had a great model A. It's still around town and still sounds great. I put higher compression on it, a cast header, downdraft, mallory etc. The best sound it ever made was through the stock A trumpet exhaust. Not tinny, not too much like a tractor, and not like a Honda. Strait pipes are good but a little on the obnoxious side. Run it all the way out the back and your ears will thank you as well. Tim
A Model A banger will Always sound like a Model A banger. It has to do with the combustion chamber design and the big for a 4 cylinder size of the motor. Enjoy it!
I'm running a gl***pack on mine. Stromber 97 with a downdraft and a tube header. Sounds okay. Not what I would call a show stopper but cheap and okay.
You've obviously never heard an Offy at full song. If that isn't music to your ears, you aren't a HOT RODDER Or a real healthy banger with a long straight pipe, very distinctive
Funny, as soon as I read the first post, I thought "well, if you expect it to sound like an offy, you are SOL."
