A little bit of trivia: production of the 292 and the 272 Y-blocks continued in Brazil until 1975. They were used in the Brazilian produced F-100s, F-600s and the Ford Galaxie/Landau. The Galaxie and Landau models were actually based on the US produced 1966 Galaxie four door sedan and were built between 1967 and 1982.
Sorry to differ with ya Mr. Happy althou I do like the Y-blocks and I DO have one right now and HAVE owned many in the past, your comment that the Y-Block's bottom ends are "strong as hell" is not quite true. Back in the "day" it was common knowlege that that you never wound up a y-block like you would with a small block Chevy.... Unless you liked picking up parts on the road...
Well, i'm pretty young, so "back in the day" for me was.......the 90's. Most of what I've learned about the Y-block is from reading and listening... So up until now, it's hearsay. I can tell you, though, from experience, that a Y-block WILL definatly outlast the automatic that is behind it.
