been looking at the pro tools pro 3 electric bead roller and hear good things about them and they are in my budget. Anyhow, am interested in also getting mittler jamey jordan signature art rollers for the bead roller. Does anyone know if Mittler Bros bead roller dies fit a Pro Tools bead roller? Any answer appreciated.
Call Pro Tools and ask. A lot of the bead rollers have a different die interface, so they might not work without an adapter or modification. I'm using some Mitler Bros. dies with my bead roller, but I had to bore them out and put in a key way to make them work. In Ron Covell's video "Beading Machine Basics", http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=779514 he was using a bushing to use different dies on one of the beading machines.
yeah, I called them and they said they "heard" of users using them. Just want to know for sure. No machinist here but a simple bushing is right up my alley. Maybe I'll get a baileigh as I hear for sure they will fit into those bead rollers. Thanks again. Anybody else?
here's a link right here... I guess they used to be purple and used to sell kits that you put together. Too bad they don't have those anymore. http://www.pro-tools.com/product.aspx?zpid=570
When you call them back, ask them size the bore is in the beading dies. If they are 3/4", the Mittler Brothers dies will work. Just curious, if you are going to use Mittler Bros. dies, why not just buy one of their beaders? Buy the best one you can afford, if you grow out of it save your dies and sell the beading machine. Then buy a bigger beading machine.
The MB is kind of pricey and I still need to split some money between the roller, a deep shrinker, and dies. Not sure if I can pull off a MB right now. Thanks. I'll call them and ask them about bore size. I figure if I buy the Pro tools I can save a couple hundred for my project mustang.
I just got my Baileigh roller last week and so far so good left at the shop this week so the other guys can play around with it. nice machine i need to get a few more die sets now.
Thanks guys. I was originally leaning towards a Baileigh powered roller. Still waiting on a quote from them.
Both the Mittler and Pro Tools bead rollers us the same O.D. dies and the same I.D. Pro tools does not use a key, but can be used on the Mittler machine. Dies can be interchanged. Woodward-Fab sells several bead rolling machines including Mittler and Pro Tools brands. Woodward-Fab also makes custom dies for "any" bead roller. www.woodwardfab.com Phil
