I'm sorry for the off-topic post, but my furnace is down, and here in Pittsburgh it's below freezing, and if I don't fix this ****er soon there will be pipes-a-burstin. (So, hopefully it's still tech, even if off topic.)

My main blower fan isn't blowing at all. The inducer fan works fine, and I've got ignition, and the burners fire. However, the main fan never blows, so the burners shut down after 60 seconds or so.

It's a seven year old Lennox, but there's note scribbled on the inside of the front panel that says "Blower Motor 5-11-99". I ***ume that means that the blower motor was replaced, but I'm not sure since I bought the house in October of 99.

Before the thing quit, it gave off a burning smell that could have definitely been the fan motor burning.

Visually, it looks OK. About the only wire I can identify on it is the ground wire. But the motor looks easy enough to replace. How expensive are they, and are they a standard size? Could I pick up a replacement at Home Depot?

Any other tips would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance,

    Matt

    Here's some more info.

The model is a Lennox G26 and here's the motor for it:

Where can I get this locally, and on a Sunday? Or should I take my chances with a 24-hours-a-day service? What's their normal markup for parts?

  3. Hey try this board, I've gotten help there..http://forum.doityourself.com/index.php
Good luck!! My heaters broken too, they helped me find out what it was, but the parts not available. [IMG] It doesnt get too cold though yet. Around 20.

  4. When mine went, no-one wanted to touch it. But my furnace was 25 yrs old. I ended up getting mine at one of those ancient hardware stores, the ones that places like Home Depot are running out of business. HD didn't have anything like it. Don't get me wrong, we shop there all the time, but don't count the little guy out... he may have what you need.

Anyways, mine was a 3 speed fan, I still have it, if ya wanna drive to detroit to get it [IMG]

  5. Well if you had a burnt oder in the house befor it quite then give the motor the nose test.If it smells burnt, it probably is. The motor should have a schematic on it. Most Hot Rodders know how to Hot wire so do it. Find the 2 wires that go to the fields and put 110 v to them. you can't hurt it. It'll either run or not. The rest of the wires have to do with soft start and speed controll.Alligater clips and 12agu will work fine. Have a flashlight handy just in case you kick a braker. Wish I could be more help.

If you smelled some burning it could be the circuit board, but an easy way to check the fan is to check continuity from the fat white wire coming off the fan to the black or red wire.

One of the coloured wires should be attached to the circuit board at a terminal that says "Heat", that's the one that gets juice when it's time for the main fan to come on.

If after the burners ignite for awhile that terminal still doesn't get 110V, then the board is probably hooped.

I think those motors are a problem though, I might have one if you want to pay the shipping from B.C.

    Give that man a cigar!

There was a short on the backside of the circuit board.

The website that desertratrodder posted is excellent. It was really helpful when my washing machine refused to go into the spin cycle. Guess what? It was a burnt resistor on the circuit board. Damn circuit boards. Things are more reliable without 'em.

Thanks to you guys for your help.
