Hey folks, looks like it's time for a rebuild on the transmission in the Ranchero, lots of black stuff swimming in the pan and a fair-sized leak out of the front seal. My go-to trans shop closed down last year. Anybody have a recommendation on a good shop/rebuilder in the NE Los Angeles area? Old Ford spe******t would be great, Pasadena/Glendale would be ideal. Dual-range/green dot pattern C4. Thanks much.

Astromotive did mine a few years back. Snappy little trans for a good price and very cool to deal with. I think they are in Hawthorne. Not exactly close but not exactly far from Pasadena area either.

I don't have a number off hand. Google does though.

I used ****** John and am very happy with the job he did. He's out in the area of Fontana somewhere. If you need his phone #, call me at (626) 447-7130 and I'll find it. Roger

Mike is a very cool guy. He races late model stocks at Irwindale Speedway on Saturday.

  10. I did my first Cruise-0-Matic when I was 19. If you can get that trans out, you can rebuild it. No special tools required. Simple, simple little trans.

Only caveat as it were: if it's a '64, it HAS to have the narrow band. The wide will NOT fit.

I'm a renter and I don't have the ability to do any heavy automotive work where I live--it's not allowed according to the lease, and anyway the only flat-ish place available to me is half dirt and half old concrete studded with tree roots--impossible to maneuver a jack under there, or really lift the car safely in the first place. I know I have the mechanical ability to do the rebuild, and it galls me no end to have to pay somebody else but I'm just going to have to deal. Or move.
