Anyone have any pictures or tips on installing a 1940 Ford Dash in a 1934 Ford? I am considering putting one in a 34 Ford coupe and would like some advice. Thanks
i put one in my old 33... here's a pic of it after i narrowed down, and a pic installed.(some people eliminate the dual ashtrays when they narrow them, which makes it easier, but to me the dual ashtrays are a cool factor of the 40 ford dash ,so its worth the extra work to keep them imho)
inbetween where the ash trays meet the glove box door and the instrument cluster panel area,,you dont gain much(not even an inch on each side) but then i changed the countour very slightly were the ashtrays are ever so slightly,,,that is were i gained the most room. it's hard to see in the pics, but if you look hard you can almost make out the weld marks..also very important, (to me) i keep the upswepts (chevrons) of the top of the dash that some people seem to elimintate as well.
Thanks guys, anyone else have any pictures of the narrowing and fitting process or finished dash pictures?
gypsy, there was an step by step article in Streetrodder magazine a couple of years ago where Jesse Greening of Greening Auto Company was installing a 40 Ford dash in an earlier car. Why don't you call Jesse and talk to him about the article and for pointers. He's a real good guy and a talented fabricator. One of his cars won the 2012 Riddler award. They are now located in Nashville, TN. Tell him I sent you.

Thanks guys, you've all been a big help. Anyone else have any other ways or details on cutting this down? I've got several ideas now and need to do a lot of measuring. May do this using a combination of ideas. As usual, if you want help, go to the H.A.M.B.!
I've got one in my 32-5w which was narrowed when I got the body. They took it out of the speaker grill area and kept the flip-up ash trays which I was happy about. The swept up ends which 345winder referred to were gone and there was some very daggy mig welds in that area. Actually the back of it is not pretty with a couple of bits of 1" x 1/4" bar as joiner strips but the front came up OK.
I Have a 1940 ford coupe with a 2004 LS-1 motor Iam having trouble finding a place to locate the ecm any Ideas.
