Projects I want to build something like this & I need donor ideas

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 31Vicky with a hemi, May 5, 2013.

  1. My vision is a build with the spirt similar to the "aluminum body corvette" thread. But not aluminum or on a vette .
    I'm open to all ideas

Looks very much to me like a highly modified '40s GM coupe. Chevy, Buick or Cadillac.

    Chopped...hardtopped...front and rear fenders raised...pancaked hood...modified decklid opening...etc.

It also reminds me of that retro Aussie coupe produced a few years ago. I can't remember the name of it. Holden?

Looks like a 1942 Buick Sedanette to me.

More coupe than sedanette. The sedanette's roofline continues smoothly into the decklid.

I really thought the retro Holden was quite a car when I first saw it. Still do.

Notice that the front fenders continue into the doors...just like the '40s GM cars.

How close to the rendering are you hoping to get? I think it's cool, but to get that shape I don't think any donor won't get mostly junked. For a car like that, I think your best start is lots of metal shaping cl***es and a large account with Shane at Baileigh!

Looks like a pretty cool idea and yep a '40s GM oughta do it.

  9. It's called Efigy. Totally custom. I have a powerpoint slideshow of it. PM me and I'll try to send it to you.

There is a 40 Chevy Coupe on Ebay right now, that looks amazingly(is that a word?) similar to your drawing...and MOST of the hard work has already been done on it, I.E. chop etc,
would save you a bunch of time

  12. For some reason, I'm thinking an old Jag "Mark" sedan might give you plenty to work with...

  13. I've been thinking on using something like this for the p***enger compartment, windows and gl***, door structures . Maybe alter the Wheel base and track as needed. Fit a conventional rwd drive line in it.
Just give it a new skin.

For me , the difficult part is all of the minor detail **** . I ****ing hate it !!!!
Chop tops involve way to many detail items in the finish. Gl*** trim, door jambs, misc trim. I'd much rather make a fender than deal with that.

Cut the skins off the red one and make new swoopy ones.

This is one of my favorite 41 Buick coupes and shows that a 41 Buick or maybe Olds coupe might be a good start for something like that.

    Stock doesn't look bad

    41 Pontiacs might work too

It would take a bunch of slicing and dicing though.

  15. Lmao !!!
I've been thinking on this one for a couple years now.
I need to squint really hard but I can see the general skeleton

  16. [IMG] Kinda like this but with skirts?

  17. Yea but I purposely didnt use a pic of the entire car.
    It locks the imagination process.

There's a powerpoint on this "efijy.pps" if you can find it. It shows the entire build and is really quite well done. An Australian Holden prototype.
Just search "efijy" and you'll get lots of finished pics.

  19. [IMG] The art work also reminded me of this one also

I would start with a 39 Chevy coupe with a chop and converted to hardtop....

I can see a lot of '47-'48 Chevy coupe hiding in that. Since you would be doing major metal shaping a rusted and cheap donor should be easy to find.

    Hi V,

Google images for Saoutchik Talbot Lago. That'd be a good starting point if you've got $$$$$$

In my world I'd probably think about starting with a ch***is and a big lump of clay then either fibregl*** or ally

    Good luck I'm subscribed

A scratch built car is in the top 5 on my bucket list.

    M
